I figure that since I already have the Canon lenses I may as well get the adapter to see how they work/look on the NEX. For me the camera will get smaller, 1Ds2>NEX, only the lenses stay the same.
Thanks Uhoh7 for your take on the n5 and n5N. You have been following this issue. This is so very interesting together with the various explanations. Might be a reason to keep both cameras. Love your shots and vistas.
Was walking around in the Mid-West with a bad back yesterday. Here are two hand held shots of a stone horse post in fall color with a Sony Nex 5 and a Contax 100-300 4.5-5.6 at 100mm and 4.5. Trying to check the lens for sharpness. With my back and hand not sure I hit it. First 100% and then a crop from the center under the metal ring,
The difference in sharpness between the 5 and 5N is not very significant IMO, that could be made up for in processing easily, in fact in the comparison above the 5 almost looks slightly over-sharpened when viewed at 100%, although the little bit of noise present may be leading me to that impression. The low noise of the 5N and much improved treatment of wide angle lenses puts it above the 5 for me. If I was going to have two NEX's it would be 5N and 7 or maybe 5N and whatever Sony release following the 7. They've made so many flavors of NEX so quickly I'm curious what they might come up with next!
I've been following it. The meaning of sharp seems lost on many. It'd be ok if they said what they really meant "for the money I paid for the thing, it makes me happy".
@ken.vs.ryu
Is that the 12/5.6 aspherical (aka VII) or the older lens? I really like the shot.
@inglis
looks nice but I would think its a hair misfocused or maybe a theres a tad of motion blur in the crop... nice micro-contrast in the full shot though.

I see people say this stuff online all the time, but I actually prefer the nex 5n to my gripped d7000. I guess the best part is the versatility in that if I want a super small camera, I can do that as well.
I'll admit if you look at a picture of a decent sized lens mounted on a nex, it may look unproportional. Handle it though and it feels very ergonomic.
Thank you James for the recommendation! Did you buy the Pro model? I read some reviews on amazon of the regular version and there are some complaints about play.
Nice shots snapsy, you're making me happier with my due anytime now order I like the last one..it's very peaceful.
The debate over there is ridiculous..I think some users are either partially sight impaired or really don't know sharp. I mean the guy posted results and then said it was as good as he can get from full frame and l lenses...the 55-210.... Sigh. I do however think that some of the alt glas is very very good and the sensor seems great, so I can understand outside of wide and fast where the nex could replace a 5d2 setup.
I think I'm going to order the canon adaptor as recommended and try it out for myself. I bet the 24L would give some nice results, I just think focusing it is going to be strange if it's being supported by the lens..still..cheap enough I guess...not sure I will get the one with aperture..maybe.

It's an incredible lens. I almost gave up on using it on my NEX because the Fotodiox adapter I was using had major stiction in the middle of the focus range. I just received my Kipon adapter and it works much, much better. The focus action on the Kipon is not far off that of a native focus ring.
I bought the 'keh' adaptor for convenience...but if it sucks it will definitely be returned. I have no idea what brand they are using, it probably rotates based on supply.
Everything about this camera is really nice, I didn't get it why people waited so much for the 7 while the 5N is this good! A mild complaint though, the magnification level has decreased from 7x and 14x (NEX 3) to 4.5x and 9.5x
I believe that, since the megapixels of the 5N increased over the 3, the difference in the magnifications is only half as bad as it looks, but there is certainly still a difference. I think 6x and 12.25x on the 5N would have been the same relative magnification as 7x and 14x on the 3.
