I'm just about to order a couple of lenses and a 5n, but I'm wondering, what are you guys doing for a fast normalish for indoors shots? The contax doesn't seem fast enough.. Is there anything in the 24 range at f2 or faster?

I think that's the Achilles heel of the NEX compared to what you can get for a FF. I have problem finding something at a reasonable price with similar performance like a 35/1.x:ish for a FF. Hope I'm wrong.

The opposite goes for longer focal lengths where absolute excellent glass is widely available at good prices.

Well there is a 24mm F1.8 Zeiss coming out soon

I might actually break down and get it if it performs well and sell my 45mm F2 and 90mm F2.8 Contax G.

Long lenses and NEX just doesn't seem to work for me.

+1

you have to use a larger lens if you want 24/2 or faster. the only rangefinder option is the lux, but it's really long (and expensive). really wish there was a 24 cron. if you're willing to go with slr lenses the FD and OM 24/2s are reputed to be quite good and not too huge. hopefully the new sony/zeiss will be very good, though it's not that small either...

Same boat here.

I was bummed at lack of options initially, but I've still got the SLRs with 35/1.4, 24/1.4 that I can use for normalish indoor low-light. It would be nice to have a 'complete' kit for the NEX... but at $1000 for that Zeiss lens... ouch.

Maybe I should suck it up and get a better bag for my 5d kit and 35/135.

Two lenses arrived today! A Zeiss Jena Biotar 75mm f1.5, and the Contax G 45. I haven't even opened the box holding the Contax yet. Below is a iphone photo (sorry...) of the Biotar on my 5N, and then a cat photo taken with it. The vignetting was added by me! The Biotar isn't as heavy as I thought (or as heavy as it looks...).

Well, I just bought a nex 5n, g28 and g45.. Camera tomorrow, lenses Monday, unfortunately as I have an opportunity Saturday. I also bought an adaptor and hood for the 28... :/ expensive toe dipping.

I'll be selling the 24L I just bought to cover it, probably..looks like it may make a great travel kit..and I can let my gf use it with the kit lens when she has to...or on a trip.

Hey hooligan, you just got yourself an excellent kit! I have the same plus g90 + some other oldies and new in various mounts. I wont sell my 5D2, the way I use a 35/1.4 cant be replaced by (any) APS-C sensor. For focales 28 and greater it's a different story - it's (very) good. And for a starter, you can have it with you anytime - so from monday you dont have to wait for opportunities anymore... :-)

That's the idea, after selling my x1, gf1, x100 I decided I still need a smaller camera.

I think I may pare down to the 5d 35, 135 and rokinon 85.. Depends how decent the nex kit lens is as a travel kit.

I have to decide if I am going to order the evf...or where I can even get it from.

I only bought one adaptor...from keh because it was convenient..hopefully it doesn't suck. I have a lot of learning todo now!

I may order the 90, but I don't use that focal length much outside of tHings I need af for (dogs)

42 Equiv is fine, I just wish I could find a good 28 that's faster, and won't make me go broke.

Thanks for the reassurances! I'm sure I'll post a pic in here by midweek.

Uhoh, partitura, hooligan, congratulations on all that new and great gear!!! Let us know How it works for you!
On my side, I am coming back from a two-week trip which is the first when I took my NEX and left my 5D2 at home. I need to evaluate results and decide if I am ready to go all-NEX.
On the gear front, I have been promised the Zeiss 24 by early December, and I will choose a 35. Either a ZM, a CV f:1,2, or a used Summicron f:2.0.
I should begin posting shots over the week-end.

Good to have you back philber, looking forward to plenty of images :-)

Tomorrow I am bringing this guy to a "party" my 8-year old son is having after school. Usually I would have brought the 5D2 and 35/1.4 so this is really a test. It's the reasonably fast Samyang 14/2.8 (which is a very sharp lens rightly handled) that I have yet to give a true chance on the NEX. Darkness has fallen over Northern Europe so I am sure ISO will be stretched. Going to be interesting to find if it in any way can match the other set. I am not sure.

BTW, just got a leathergrip for the NEX which I really can recommend. Seen below too.

Uhoh - yeah, the biotar 75mm set me back quite a bit. I found it on ebay, and had to beat out some seemingly equally determined buyers. It is a beauty, though. The cat seems not to care about my lenses in the slightest.

Philber - Like you, I'm going to get the Zeiss 24 when they arrive here in early December. I'm pretty interested in the CV 35 1.2, also. And to thank you for all the sculpture shots you've posted, I'll post some sculpture images tomorrow taken with the new Contax 45 and the Biotar. I need to exercise both

BTW, the Fotodiox Contax G adapter that I got does bind when focussing the Contax 45. Any tips from anyone on lubricating it with something? Would good old WD-40 do any damage?

wfrank, I'm really interested to know how you like the Samyang 14.

I still have my nex7 on preorder as well as the zeiss. I believe the zeiss could round things out and I may move to a 7d for action. I'm excited!

Usually I never post pictures of cats but this time I couldn't resist Here is one taken with 5N and "papa" of the Biotar 75/1.5 - a pre-war Biotar 100/2:

I went with 5 lenses: ZM 18, Contax G 28, Leica 60 Makro, Contax G 90, and Sony kit zoom for AF. I then added with the invaluable help of fellow FMer Krosavcheg a Contax G 45.
I love having a Leica lens to mix with my Zeiss, because the rendering is so different. I could have saved myself weight and cost with the 45 and 90, which I hardly used. Need to work on that. I am totally sold on the NEX for macro, much easier than the 5D2. My keeper rate is also much better, both from an IQ and an artistic (?) point of view. I also found that I can handhold the NEX to about 1/3 the usual "one over the focal length". Much better than with the Canon. I did one session of candid street shooting with the kit lens, and confirmed that the NEX is great for that as well, but needs better AF glass. Where is the promised Sony G zoom?
My key question is now: how many keepers will turn out to be Wow! shots?
But the fact is that I had my NEX with me all the time, including at meetings, hidden in a Billingham bag. I could not and would not have done that with my 4kg-4 Zeiss ZE-Lowepro. And no way would I have slunk out most mornings with it and my full-size Velbon for dawn shooting the way I did with my light and stealthy kit, with Cullmann tripod.
