snowboarder: yup, that Leica R28 is quite a lens, glad you enjoy it! Then you can appreciate my teeth grinding after losing all my 16GB worth of hiking photos from my last Banff/Jasper trip. 90% with the Leica lens. Still hurts. I'm ok... sob... I'm ok...

Henrik, that sucks, next time I'm there I will think of you. I might go next Spring, but would
also like to see more of BC, between Banf and Vancouver. That really sucks, feel it for you...

To finish off todays shots, here's an example where NEX and great glass is utterly inferior compared to e.g. 5D2 and a simple good performing lens. This is a couple of hours later, my son and his friend having a ball at school on a afternoon gathering. There's no way the NEX and great MF lenses can deliver what a 5D2 can do with AF in situations like this. But in this particular case, the total OOF carries some nice artistic values (at least to me)

Looks fantastic, the G 28, 45 and 90 would make a nice walk-around set up for the NEX.

These aren't fantastic shots, but I'm impressed by how good some of this old FD glass is, plus its very small and light weight.....

I'm also pleased with the way the 5N handles colors, all of my Canon dSLR's have had a tendency to blow out reds, oranges, and yellows, the 5N seems to handle these colors well, even in jpeg.

And I'm loving the external EVF (well worth the money).

the handling is great. a nice grip for steady shots. evf was a new experience coming from the nex-5. the two dials had a nice damped feel. shutter sound was subdued compared to the 5. can't wait to get mine.

Out of this world resolution and a very specific look. Absolutely amazing.
Can not show anything, but will shoot with lens again asap, will post some here.

As far as 180 goes, never had a chance to shoot with it, but I feel
Voightlander 180 APO might be better, just saying

Better in some ways (shorter MFD, better corrected wide open than the Leica focused below 5m, lighter, used to be cheaper, but that's not true anymore), and arguably better in one way (it really depends on what you expect out of the bokeh), but the Leica picks up an astounding amount of detail. It makes every pixel count. And it's got better color, in my opinion.

I like the shot, Wilhelm, but I don't understand the comparison. I'm not sure that manually focusing on the 5D2 with excellent glass would yield better results, just as I think the NEX with a decent AF lens could keep up with the 5D2 and simple good performing lens.

Dusted off my old 55mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor and got this shot with it on the NEX-5N. Not critically sharp, but that's due to the stiff breeze, not the lens. My only complaint about this lens is it seems to attract windy conditions.

Yup, the comparison is unfair. I meant that even the primitive AF in a camera like 5D2 would take that shot to another level, ie it would be sharp where I want it to be. I bought the 5N with the vain idea that it could replace its older super-brother. Now I realize that (for me) two key qualities go down the drain with the NEX. One is DOF, second is how magnificent DSLR AF actually is in some situations. If I would have brought the NEX kit lens, it would not stand a chance against the 5D2 and say a "simple" EF 50/1.4. Now, if I would have had a manual lens (for the 5D2) to take a similar shot I would have done better too. With the 5D2 the shot is almost instant through the VF (but in this case I would have needed to kneel). This compared to my flimsy NEX displayclicks; enlarge - focus peek - back to 100% - compose - shutter. I dont see that go away from the NEX as I use it. But the pros-side is not empty at all. I wont elaborate, I really like the 5N and I have no intention of letting it go

---

Now I present you with "the Crocodile", an old 50's DDR Zeiss Jena 135/4. Full of dust, non-working aperture and focus ring that feels like concrete.

Two shots from today. It turns out the lens is quite capable of producing sharp images.

Thanks Vinnie, much appreciated.

While at it, earlier today two sport shots. The NEX can be a real sportscam, well maybe not.. ;-)

This is not my kind of images, but I wanted to try. Had the Zeiss Contax G 45/2. A cross-bike event downtown. Crop first, then two images. Fix focus and follow-subject was the idea and it worked. Harsh sun.
