Nope, this only makes the lens move the frameline selector to a different position when mounted.
Really glad I did this mod to my Heliar 40mm.
If you check a 40mm lens against the 35mm framelines and an actual projected image size (focusing screen in bulb) on a modern M body, you'll likely find a prefect match at most distances except close focus, where it is a hair smaller than the framelines suggest.
This obviously depends on whether you crop the photos after (enlarger masks, easel, filling the paper, scanning etc). I prefer to print and/or scan with borders, which makes the 35mm framelines effectively 40mm on M-A.
