p.1 #1 · Canon 5D MARK II Problem

Please help. I recently was on a shoot and spilled a small amount of water on the camera and I quickly wiped it off. The water went right between the lens and where it mounts. I dried it out as much as possible with no visible water anywhere. Now the camera gives me an Error o1 when I take a picture with any lens, it doesn't matter what it is. Everything works except no Auto Focus and gives me and Error 01 when take a shot, also aperture is not available. I tried everything. I dont have warranty anymore. Anyone with any information will be very helpful.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you're looking at a trip to the repair shop. I lost a camera in Alaska a few years ago due to a freshwater accident and feel your pain...

Did you clean the contacts? I've had a greasy fingerprint befuddle AF operation and a good cleaning with micro-fiber cloth sprayed with contact cleaning healed it. If it isn't that, you'll just have to pay Canon Service for the repair. The water could have dripped down to the AF sensor and related circuits (bottom of mirror box)...

I tried cleaning it and opened up the part that the lens connects to to make sure there is no visible water. There is nothing. Is a local canon certified shop ok, or should I sent it off to Canon direct?

I wouldn't mess with anyone but Canon service since you're dealing with the camera body...

Water damage would not be covered by warranty in any case. Send it to Canon ASAP.

If it were me I'd give the area a 99% alcohol bath, but thats me and I'm very experienced in the repair of electronics. I'd probably also take it apart a bit first.

If you don't want to do that, I'm sure a trip to canon is cheaper than a camera.

I'd try cleaning the contacts & the bottom part of the mirror chamber with some isopropyl alcohol first. It evaporates away nicely and will even carry small amounts of moisture it encounters with it. Worth a shot.

Remove the battery and send it to Canon straight away. The water might have percolated inside causing this problem. If you keep fiddling with the battery inside, you might be helping it short circuit further. I had a water problem this summer w/ my 5d mark II and it cost me $700 to get it repaired. If you are lucky enough not to have the panel inside replaced, you might get away w/ much less than that. All the best.
