So, I'm considering upgrading to a 60D and thanks to the Internet I'm concerned about the lack of micro focus adjustment. It's otherwise exactly the camera I'm looking for (from a 400D): a stop or two better ISO performance, better AF, video, etc.
My problem is that I have two 3rd party lenses, Sigma 30mm and Tamron 17-50. If one doesn't work right, I can send body+lens to that company to get it adjusted. Haven't had to do this yet, but it seems to work well for people. But what if that throws off the other lens? Can I send all three in to any one company? Probably not.
its unlikely they would touch the body , adjustment would be at the lens side. this is normaly a softwar/firmware thing in how it talks to that body.
But if your worried about multiple lenses (which may be totaly unfounded) why not look into a 7D which has MA.
If you had to send lenses to 1. Sigma and 2. Tamron then unless you were to get the work done free you could well be much closer to the cost diffrence between the 60D and the 7D. (factor in shipping charges as well)
To quote/paraphrase both: I wasn't worried too much about it, and I realize that the fears may be totally unfounded, but of course reading all the threads about how the 60D is terrible since it lacks MA pushed me into the irrational! Thanks for the replies though, it helps bring back reason.
Ian - you raise a very good point about bringing the cost difference up to the 7D. I had considered the 7D out of the budget, and frankly overkill for me, but you're absolutely right and I hadn't considered that. Plus, I would save by not having to buy new memory cards. I'm sure the wife will see that logic.
Probably the best thing to do is just order the 60D and hope for the best. I worry more about the Sigma anyway, since 1.4 leaves no room for error. So if I just had to send in the one it wouldn't be so bad.
It's funny that I don't currently have a single body with MA (1Ds2, 1D2n, 10D, 1N), and all my glass focuses spot-on. I did have a 50D for a short while, and many of those very same lenses needed adjustment. Go figure.
I've often pondered the same thought...All my lenses are spot on using 1DsmkII, 20D, 30D, but on my 7D some seem to need adjustment. A little weird, like creating the need for MA as a feature.

I have 2 cameras with MA and 1 without...and i don't use it at all

OTOH I had to send in a number of lenses for focus calibration fixing when I had my 20D and same with the 40D, which proved to be a mini-disaster since they couldn't fix it before a huge expedition....
And 300 2.8+TC was never really usable for sports on the 20D/40D but after a little MFA it was passable on the 50D.
