I am getting my a concealed carry permit and am going to carry at shoots and for that matter pretty much everywhere.
I have grown up around guns all my life and feel comfortable with them. Granted no one will know unless its needed.
I already have enough gear pulling my pants down....
I don't think I would feel the need. I grew up around guns too and have many. My brother has his CCW and carries occasionally but really it is just for novelty purposes.
I could see if someone was traveling to sketchy spots on an assignment or something, but I doubt I would put my clients in danger by going somewhere sketchy.

1. Be very careful to learn all of the laws and regulations regarding your decision to carry. Among other things, many states forbid carry in establishments that serve alcohol. This might apply to many/most receptions if you're talking about carrying at a wedding.
2. Carrying a weapon is a huge responsibility, and no state in the union mandates the kind of realistic training that is necessary to safely and effectively employ a firearm in a life-threatening situation, as prerequisite to maintain a carry permit. If you aren't fully committed to ongoing, significant, realistic training with your weapon, then you are a danger to yourself and others. In my opinion, shooting a 50 round box of ammo once a year, never from the draw is NOT adequate. Just "being around guns" is not training. Training is training.
3. You are the only person who can come up with a valid threat assessment of how likely you are to actually need a firearm while working. However, I believe that MOST people with carry permits are under-prepared, and don't have a really legitimate need to carry. Most of them couldn't effectively employ the weapon if needed, and are a safety hazard to all of us.
I'm pretty sure clients who may get a glimpse of your weapon by mistake may be concerned with what form of shooting you plan them to paticipate in. I shoot in some not so great areas and would never consider a handgun required.
I'm as big a Second Amendment proponent as anyone, but I'd never carry a concealed weapon to a wedding or on a photoshoot.
For starters, I refuse to shoot in places where I might potentially feel threatened. If it's to the point I need to carry a gun to feel safe, I'm better off elsewhere.
Evan Im not going into this willy nilly. When I say Ive been around guns I mean I have used them a lot, and have taken various different training courses and plan to shoot regularly with my handguns.
Im not trying to be an ass or show off with my "new" gun or anything, but I feel it is better to have a gun and not need it than needa gun and not have it.
No offence to you but there are plenty of non military out there that can use a gun proficiently. I agree that there are some asses out there only looking to look cool w/ a piece, but I live right next to a bad area town and our house has been burglarized 3 times, also my camera gear has been stolen twice. I also have a young daughter that I wouyld like to be able to protect if need be.
Im just wondering with all of us toting tens of thousands in gear if anyone else does it..

This is going to be a VERY contentious topic.

Truth spoken.
People just have no clue. My brother has been "shot" 3 separate times at the indoor range by ricocheting rounds from people who shoot the floor or ceiling. Even the people going to "practice" sometimes still have no clue.
If you are carrying a gun you have to assume the responsibility that goes along with shooting it....at someone else. No way in my opinion. Not something I want on my conscience. I admire those who serve our country and who do assume that responsibility but I cannot say that I will voluntarily be assuming that responsibility soon.
