Okay Iam back and please enlighten me.

This so called "HOLLYWOOD" term which zeiss lens exactly is this? Below are some conflicting infos i got from forums and blogs.

They say:

1. The real hollywood lens is the zeiss cine 27mm f2 - not sure if it exists.

2. c/y 2/28 is the real hollywood.

3. Pentax 2/28 a copy of c/y 2/28 only better.

4. Classic ze-zf 2/28 not the same as c/y 2/28.

5. Classic ze,zf 2/28 is the modern hollywood.

Now my questions is... Why the term hollywood attached to a specific 28mm lens? What's really the character of this lens?

I bought my copy of the Contax Distagon 28/2 solely to make the kind of images Jannik Peters describes in his review: "The dreamy bokeh wide open, the field curvature which reduces the depth of field towards the corners, the good close-up performance, the great colors and the good flare resistance make this lens predestined for close-up wideangle photography with shallow depth of field."

That's two questions. Here's what I have on the first one.

From the Contax 28mm f/2 review at PeeblePlace,

"The Contax 28mm F2 Distagon’s optical formula is based on a Zeiss 28mm cinematic lens. The cinematic lens design was subsequently adapted for 35mm SLR use, so sometimes the 28mm F2 Distagon is referred to as the “Hollywood 28”. One of the key features of the 28mm F2 Distagon is the floating element design which provides significantly better near field performance and a short minimum focus distance."

Ref. Peeble Place review,

It's quite possible that the Cine 27/2 is the same lens, as cine folks seem to be more particular about having exact numerical values, rather than a "where it fits in the lineup" labeling approach. If the Cine 27/2 and Contax 28/2 are the same, then this suggests that the f-stop and t-stop values are both 2, which is certainly possible, but not very common.

The SMC Pentax 28/2 has the same optical formula as the Contax 28/2, and was developed as part of a brief and informal partnership between Zeiss and Asahi Optical (i.e. Pentax).

I think the SMC Pentax should be called the "Vancouver", since that's "Hollywood North".

Here's a comparison of optical diagrams for the Contax 28/2 and SMCP 28/2,

I don't know why you lads are having so much trouble telling the zf35 from the 28 ...the 35 is for the head, the 28 is for the heart. And for those that think the zf35 is a close enough approximation to 28mm, it's not.

I have both, I like the 35 but I love the 28.

My experience is identical to this.
