Certainly a lot better than my $1800 70-200 2.8IS with a stupid 1.4 on it. (the only time I use the combo is for the zoo, and this Tamron would be nice as could be for it instead).
I really wish there was a way to get a 300mm f/4 with great IQ without breaking the peter on the bank. Though, a 70-200 2.8IS II with the 1.4 looks pretty damn good, or the 135L with 2x is almost 300mm.
How did you find USD's accuracy and speed when compared to ring USM lenses? I have both 300/4 IS and 55-250 IS and think this one will make for a nice replacement.

there is . Sigma 100-300/4 is one of their best lenses available . very good IQ . its not the smallest or lightest arround but then it is f4.
Or I just found a HSM 300/4 thats a cracking lens. can only use at f4 at the moment but had a quick conversation with sigma UK and they still Chip most of the HSM lenses if needed, and at a great cost of less than £40 !
A rare lens indeed. I've also found the review of 100-300/4 on Canon FF and it doesn't seem as hot as it did on APS-C. But a good idea nonetheless. I wish Sigma updated this lens with OS just like they did with the 120-300/2.8, and preferably without sending the price through the roof like Canon does.

Not quite, if I'm any indicator. I don't own any other 3rd party lenses. In fact all my lenses have the red ring, except for this one. I've got almost every L zoom and a couple L primes. I'm a Canon red ring guy... But to get similar performance at $1000 LESS and MUCH lighter? How blind brand loyal/stupid would you have to be? Now if Canon's non-L 70-300IS didn't have a rotating front element, I wouldn't have even had to go to the Tamron, but it does so I did. Sorry Canon I love you, but in this rare instance you've lost my business.

Hi Yakim, very accurate and fast on my 1D4. However it does make a little noise, which I was not used to. This is my first 3rd party lens and if there is a difference/downside it is the noise. Please understand it is very quiet, I photographed a professional golf event with it last weekend and was using autofocus on the payers as I was standing on the fringe of the green while they were putting. I was not worried about them hearing it. But I can hear it when its right next to my ear, a little more than my USM lenses.

But the new Canon has to compete against other Canon products. It's more expensive than the 70-200mm 4.0 IS which also has the constant aperature. It's about the same price as the 100-400 L. I haven't seen much excitement over this lens like I have seen with the new 8-16 fisheye zoom and new Super Telephoto primes.

which makes you ask why they bothered? even worse they seem to have removed the 70-300 IS from the lineup to justify it in some way. I'm sure that the L will be a very good performer but I just can see it justifying the ultra high price. If they had have made it a 3.5-4.5 then maybe but adding USM 1 extra UD element, better optics (probably), heavier build and painting it white do not justify the $1000 that its lists for
Hello, I thought I would give a heads up on this lens. There are 2 rebates available on this lens when purchased from National Camera Exchange in Mpls totalling 80 usd. Until 11/20. It is indeed an excellent lens.

Personally, I'd opt for this one only because of the USD and non-rotating front element. These two issues irritate me a lot in the 18-55 IS, 70-300 IS and 55-250 IS. That said, they are still much better than the 18-55 SAM....

Damn, those samples look fantastic! I own the Tamron 28-75 and although its focus not as fast or silent as Canon USM its an incredibly sharp lens; sharper and much lighter than my 24-105 (which I consider to be sharp lens).
(given its price)
