Look, I’m not a lens reviewer. I buy one, and I use it in the real-world. If I like it I keep it. This is a keeper. I’m not interested in shooting brick walls because I rarely shoot those. I shoot people so I use them as my subjects. I never leave an image straight out of camera, so I’m not about to start here. Take them or leave them as what they are - the lens used in a real world shoot with real people (who, incidentally, live in that area and are as bohemian as it gets (designers) )
Each to their own. I’ve a thick skin. And they loved them, which is all I really care about.

A day after I got the lens from Dustin, the camera shop I ordered from got in 2 of them.

I am an event shooter and we know by now 24 1.4's AF has trouble locking itself accurately in low light for moving subjects. So I will pass and rely on what I know what work.
Got the 35 f/1.4G this week, and testing it with a few shots on my D3s. So far so good, focus is a tad slow, but nothing I can't live with. These are out-of-the-camera JPGs.

ive come to the conclusion that for anything that requires FAST af, you are much better off with the 2.8 zooms.
That said, the IQ that these primes have is just amazing... I purchased the 24 1.4 on a whim when they dropped down to 1999 because i needed something wide and fast for my trip and it doesnt look like amazon will be shipping out my 35 anytime soon.... the af is fast enough for what i need but i can see how it could be to slow for when there is a lot of fast moving subjects.
Thanks for sharing your thinking. IMHO AF 28mm 1.4D is much faster than 24 1.4G in that aspect. I try to stay away from Amazon when I buy precision instruments, such as high-end lenses and cameras because of amazon's poor packing practice. It's really frustrating to keep exchanging until you can one that works. I learned my lesson well.

ive never had a problem with a lens due to their packing.. usually the packaging in the "nikon" box is pretty robust on its own but its too hard to beat their return policy, price, and speed of shipping.. (when they have the item in stock that is...

I have. I bought the 24 1.4 from them recently when it was at $1999. It arrived in a box only inches larger than the Nikon box with no padding at all on three sides. The Nikon box was all scratched on one side and the plastic insert around the lens was cracked with a piece missing. I was really surprised at how poor the pack job was. I have been ordering from them since 1996 and have been a long time fan but they disappointed me this time.
The lens is fine so I am keeping ti but am still dissapointed.

I would call Amazon and tell them your item is broken. If I paid that much money, I would want my lens to be perfect, box included.
If no one ever tells them they are doing a poor job, then they don't feel they are doing a poor job.
I thought I would add a snapshot from my 35mm which I got a couple of weeks ago. I think this is my favorite FL, and so far this lens is not disappointing me.

Agree 100% on the comment about super fast AF - if it is super critical stick with the f2.8 zooms.
