^This adapter used to be the quickest way to use Nikon lenses on Sigma but a change in design with current Sigma DSLR's resulted in incompatibility. I read that the company re-designed their product to work on newer Sigma's but their website was not very clear about this. I just received the below reply to my inquiry concerning this from the company:
"Yes, we have a new one.
Unfortunately the adapter can't get 100% infinity.
It gets 99% infinity, but not 100%.
There is one thing I don't understand here:
With Canon cameras, most alternative lenses are used with adapters, which is easy and flexible. One can change between Canon and a selection of alternatives within seconds.
With Sigma, the same situation seems to be solved by changing the mount on either the camera or lens. Although the process is mostly relatively straight forward and in most cases reversible, it's not nearly as easy and absolutely not cheaper. For some lenses, like Zeiss CY, the process is apparently not straightforward at all. One alternative is obviously to change the mount on the camera to Canon EF, but that is one of the more radical solutions (although probably the most convenient when it has been done), and we don't even know yet if it's doable on the SD1.
Does anybody know why no adapters are available for Sigma cameras in spite of the lens mount as well as register distance being very similar to Canon's EF mount?
Thanks for starting this thread, Tariq. Let's try keeping it on the first page, at least until the SD1 is launched and we have found all the solutions. The SD1 may well be the most interesting camera for alternative glass in a long time.
Register distance as well as mount diameter are factors here. Canon has a short register distance as well as a big diameter mount, so it is very well suited to adapting different lenses. Lenses with not much more register distance can be adapted because part of the mount sits inside the canon mount so to speak when adapted. I'd speculate that the Sigma mount is smaller in diameter, which would make it impossible to adapt some lenses, while swapping the mount is still an option.

Good question and while I don't know the definitive answer I would guess it is that the market for Sigma adapters is so small as compared to that for Canon that commercially producing these adapters is not economically viable.

That was my thought as well, but still, some find it an economical solution to produce alternative mounts for the camera, which can't be much less complicated. If there's a market for that...
DJCS,
The SA and EF mounts are nearly identical and have the same register distance.
The SA mount is a modified pentax k mount with the same register distance from EF mount. I belive the SA and K mount are indeed smaller diameter than EF which is probably the biggest problem.

That may explain some of it, I suppose it's a fully electronic mount, with now screwdriver AF?

As requested by Spyro P. and just so the info is in one place, use this thread for Sigma DSLR mount or lens adapter options, issues and questions.
To get it started, here are some links as well as some new information I just received:

But there are adapters for Sigma cameras. For a start, there are several types of M42-SA adapter such as the PMBAA (Polish made Black Anodised Aluminium) version, the PMSAA (Polish made Silver Anodised Aluminium) version (sometimes called Titanium finish), the PMCPB (Polish made Chrome Plated Brass) version, and the Japanese JTAT version) The JTAT version is by far the best quality but also the most expensive.
The Chinese have started making cheapo M42-SA adapters from chrome plated brass but I dont recommned any of them as they are somewhat thinner than the former adapters and they dont have the built in AA pin compressor flange that proper M42-SA adapters have.
For the SD9 and SD10 only, there is the Japanese JTAT Nikon-SA adapter which allows most Nikon F lenses to be used at infinity.
For all SA mount cameras there is the Roxsen Nikon-M42 adapter, used via an M42-SA adapter it allows virtually all Nikon F lenses to fit but they cant reach infinity. The Roxsen adapter is better for macro use with Micro Nikkors as it gives a magnification advantage.
Tamron Adaptall lenses can be used either by a Adaptall-M42 adapter, plus an M42-SA adapter or via an Adaptall-PK adapter.
P6 lenses can be used via a P6-M42 adapter, plus an M42-SA adapter.
M645 lenses can be fitted via an easy to make M645-SA adapter or M645-M42 adapter, plus an M42-SA adapter.
And there are now replacement mounting plate kits available for the SD14, SD15, which convert them into Nikon F mount or Leica R. Olympus OM and Contax/Yashica may be available too.
