p.2 #1 · BlackRapid Strap - free falling

My son bought a Jessops own brand qr strap for his new Canon D450 (Jessops is the largest UK camera retailer). The nylon strap just pulled through the clip buckle and the camera fell luckily on to a table. The buckles had no real grip on the strap. I have cured this by putting knots on the straps so they are too thick to pull through. It seems easy to wreck an expensive camera with poorly designed & manufactured straps.

I have the BR double and have used both the -2 and -3 fastener and never had it even move let alone loosen. I have checked a numder of times just to see if there was any change and it is rock solid. Now when I put it on I just give it a little lick on the washer to wet it and it slides right on dries and sticks. When I had my -2 I only had 2 of them so I had to move them around and every time I took one off it was a bit of force and then there was a snap and it would loosen.

I live local to BR and have been in their office a coupe times. They are super low key very friendly and look like a fun office to work in. Any email, like the op said, they respond to fast.

To OP did you wet the washer when you put it on? Not placing blame as $hip happens in strange ways BUT when the GPS gives wrong directions or the computer won't work right the wife blames it. Often it was her turning to early or her not closing a program properly. Love my wife but can you say op-error most of the time.

Will finish and say I have used stock, op-tech and PAC safe and these is by far the most comfortable to wear all day with even 2 bodies on.

I don't traditionally 'wet' the rubber. In fact I don't remember reading any of the docs that suggested that I do. If for any reason the caribiner becomes lodged then walking can cause the screw to loosen. Either way, I emailed BR, they replied quickly and then it became radio silence. As for the shoulder strap - YMMV.

$20 is not enough. If you want to make a better offer, PM me.

Watch the videos on their site. They talk about wetting the rubber grommet. I believe they also mention using blue lockit on threads. I do that and have had no issues.

Hey, you guys are saying it's a design flaw and "not yet ready for prime time". I'm sure you wouldn't wnat to overcharge me for something you consider to be flawed.

Not sure where I read or saw it but I have always got it wet be fore placement. I tried looking on their site but my iPad has to have flash to play their videos. I did go on youtube and searched FastenR-3 black rapid and if you can listen to the guys review as soon as he puts it on he said the same thing. It is recommend you wet it. I goes a little beyond but you get the idea. I would try that and see I have not tried dry to see if it still pops to break free like wet. Good luck

as I noted in a previous post, at least with the D700, be extra careful of the carabiner dinging up the rear bottom edge of the camera body; also, buddy of mine who has a D700 purposely placed black electrical tape along that edge to keep that from happening. He was pretty confident also that the attachment would never come loose. Well, it didn't. What it did do was to stick so tightly to the rubber on the bottom of the baseplate that when he began to remove it, it began to pull up the rubber away from the base plate. Each of us has the BR-7. I've gone on to using only a standard strap, or, my Cotton Carrier. Never a problem with either of those.

No, I'm saying I have so much into this stupid strap that I'll just keep it for that and give it to someone I know who might want to try it. For $20 it's not worth the hassle of paypal and fooling around and then have someone else get it who then complains I sold them a strap that isn't that great.

Yep. Went for a hike yesterday with my 1Dmk3 on the Cotton Carrier - over hill over dale, through some pretty rugged "hiking." Worked perfectly, nothing moving around easy to shoot from. No neck/shoulder fatigue. Using a BR in that sort of application would have been impossible and uncomfortable.

Mine work great. Been through a lot. The key is to check your connections periodically to make sure nothing has come loose (no matter what strap system you use).

I like my BR strap too. What I have done is to thread a metal split ring through one of the strap slots (I don't use the standard neck strap, which makes this possible). I hook the strap onto this ring. This is both more secure, and allows for use of the body on a tripod. This is a slick way to carry two bodies, one tripod, and switch without putting one body on the ground.

Wetting rubber washers, threading extra strap material, using split rings and carabiners...boy, I hope BR isn't reading this thread as it's certainly not doing the product any favors.

Even with the OEM straps that come with bodies, I put them on, they stay on and nothing else is needed. Same goes for my OpTech Pro Loops. Never had to rig those up with extra straps, rings, caribeners, etc. Whew! That's a lot of work for a silly strap.

When you spin on an oil filter you do the same thing with the rubber washer small amount on there to seat and seal. Does boy seem like that big of a step. If it works why would you boy do it?

I'm with Scott. It's not a complete product if it takes all that fooling around to make sure it's safe (and it does because it's not). It's a kludge.

Man do some people hate BR straps and go out of their way to tell everyone.

I love mine. Been using it for 2 years with no problem. Comfortable, stylish and practical. It's not a fad, or "silly" or a "kludge". It's an awesome strap.

Drop your camera 2 or 3 times because the strap is a kludge or fails and you'll hate it too.

Disconnects from the bottom of the camera and the hook thing. Also numerous whacks into tabletops and other hip high obstacles.
