p.4 #1 · Review of the Profoto Batpac

lol Kacey, do you just follow Paul Buff around to post negatively about anything he has to say?

I think Paul follows threads containing dicussions of competitor brand and hi jacks them.

THEN Jerry comes in and says something to Paul. I can't believe how you missed the first part, though, like other PCB loyalists.

Sadly, Paul just called on all the PCB forum members to come here to stand up for him.
Even insinuating he was banned because of a relationship between Fred and Profoto

To be accurate, in this case Mr. Kacey posted here first (post #5), and then Mr. Buff came on board (post #6, 11 minutes later).

However, this is all water under the bridge. What's done is done. May we all please return to the topic of this thread...the Profoto BacPac and/or Mr. Chavez's experience with it?

Don't forget this part:

I ask you to draw your own conclusions to the implications of all of this and post any comments on this subject here, or on FM.

I think you missed my point. If you see what I quoted Jeremy Clay saying, it will all make sense.

Anyway, I think DC's write up is good. For once, a write up (not a 'review' as he called it) is about the product when it's used and not just numbers and computations and speculations and hype. While those are important for learning what a product is capable of performing, once in a while it's refreshing to read about it in action.

No, I got it, and that was my point; in this case Kacey didn't follow Paul, as Mr. Clay suggested; Kacey was here first.

This is a private forum so I don't see any reason why Mr. Miranda can't do anything he wants too no matter what his decision may be. I hope now to see Carmen Miranda and a few of the others who packed it in return. I miss their quality advice.

p.4 #9 · Review of the Profoto Batpac

I originally came here to discuss lighting styles and technique, not to get involved in brand wars, yet somehow I let myself get sucked in. I suspect that is true of many participants and bystanders as well.

Maybe that stage in the evolution of this forum is over.

I use or have used virtually every major brand of lighting on the market on work ranging from pr type head shots to weddings to small and big time magazines and newspapers to annual reports for Fortune 500 companies to national and international ad campaigns.

In 26 years i've never, ever had a client or an art director ask what brands of lights I was using. Question about cameras yes, but lights? Never.

All paying clients care about are two things: "Do I or my company look good?" and for my commercial clients , was "the final piece an effective piece of marketing or adverting?"

In other words good and great photographic work is all about your wetware and not your hardware.

PCB has his own tech forum, direct questions and comments intended for the manufacturer should be posted to his forum.

Regarding the Batpac, and VB Mini, it seems like both manufacturers are using some sort of modified Samlex's design? The VB Mini II resembles the Samlex 120W model and BatPac uses the same LED holder (and layout) as the Samlex PST line. Of course, we can't tell for sure unless someone get their hands on both and compare the circuits side by side.

That is, I think, one of your most valuable attributes to we, your fellow forumites; you have a breadth and depth of experience that surpasses most, and you're willing to share it without proselytizing.

I wish we'd see Shatterkiss again for the same reason.

Thank you for being here.

Yes, let's do the same for every brand here: by looking it that way, I'm sure you can probably erase more than 60% of this forum posts, including many of yours.

I'm disappointed to see Paul banned as I appreciated his technical posts that were not only about his products but about lighting in general.

But if his posts were damaging the relationship between FM and his advertisers, money is money and business is first.

Good riddance. Now we can finally have a non PCB product discussion without distraction. Good job Fred! Finally.

I have the Innavatronix, no need for the batpac, but i'm glad to see more options out there.

Well, not so fast. There has been some mention that poster Kacey above is a Profoto employee/distributor? If this proves true, shouldn't this person also go for the sake of consistency? Never seen him post anything objective about ProFoto products here. I'm calling on FM to make the house cleaning complete. Let's get rid of all the vendors on here that pump their stuff. How about it? As for the batpac, it looks interesting but far more expensive than what it seems to be worth. I don't think I'm a potential customer.

OMG, I suggested that someone else purchase a Photek Softlighter. I hope someone doesn't accuse me of being a Photek rep and ban me for going against the rules.

Seriously, get over it already. PCB's ban was a long time coming and more so deserving than anyone else in this section of the forums.

I hadn't seen this thread before, and after reading it did help put the Buff ban more into perspective for me. I don't think he should have jumped in. However, I'm starting to think the Kasey poster is also pumping his products here just as much after reading his posts. Earlier I didn't know that and was giving him the benefit of the doubt. I'll continue reading his old posts and may officially complain about him if it looks like he's just another spammer. I think he is equally at fault with Buff for previous disruptions here and am taking it up with FM via PM. Like I said, let's clean house. It's the fair thing to do. I still see no reason the BatPac couldn't be sold for under $600. Easily.

Where'd you hear that?

Mr. Kacey runs his own small business, with his office just a few miles down the road from me: http://www.kaceyenterprises.com/

Okay, seriously; as soon as I see no more falsehoods being posted, I'll quit posting facts to counter them.
