This post got all strange, apologies. Took the new A7R out for a spin at lunch with the Nikon 55mm f/3.5 Micro. End up using this lens a lot to photograph gear for sale. Nice reminder it’s quite excellent at actual photographs.
I'm not surprised of course, but there is the old saying if a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it, did it happen? My eyes have not set sight of this thread for some time and out of sight, out of mind, right? Happy, to see things are rambling along.
I was driving down the freeway this morning when I saw a small island in a tidal marsh covered with white birds and had to check it out. I exited, doubled back, found a parking spot and checked my camera bag to see if I had any length in there. Fortunately, the 80-200 f/4.5 AI was in the bag so I went to work. This is a cropped version, converted to black and white. These are all white pelicans of the sort you'll find skimming across the water of San Francisco Bay. They seemed content to crowd this tiny bit of land with tide high.
Later in the week I'll be doing some portrait work with a friend. I'm wondering whether this slight bit of activity will get the juices flowing again... You'll be the first to know since this is the only place where I post photos. Enjoy your autumn everyone. This time of year tends to be the nicest in the Bay Area. It is a tad warm at the moment at 90 degrees but the next ten days will have highs in the mid to upper 70's with plenty of sun. I guess you could call this an Indian summer. Be well everyone.
I got side tracked the other day, and decided to build me another box for the kitchen. I was curious how cheaply I could do it, and use mostly GNU licensed software. Now I have this really awesome dual booting (win10 pro/Ubuntu MATE 19.04) machine. Quad core hyper threaded (8 threads) 3.4-3.9 ghz i7 3770, 16GB ram, 512mb ssd, nVidia 750ti SC graphics. The only purchased software was Corel's AfterShot pro 3 for linux, and I find myself in linux almost all the time instead of Win10. Anyway, these all were shot this afternoon, and imaged in AfterShot and Gimp.

Ok after too many weeks being away, I actually got out and shot this weekend.
Focusing on "textures" this month. The three in this series are from an old barn in Southern Va. Used the Leica M and Nikkor 8.5cm/2 and Nikkor 5cm/2 LTM lenses.
After a week of record breaking high temperatures with one day reaching 100 degrees and breaking the all time October record here, it was a welcome change to go out in temperatures in the 50's
George
It's nice to have you back with us George!
I guess I'm more of an "occasional" than a "regular"; so here is another of my occasional image posts. These are a couple of early summer shots looking seaward from The Malahat, which is the mountainside road that goes into Victoria from points north on Vancouver Island. The first photo was taken with the 28-50 f/3.5 Ai-s, and the second comes courtesy of that lens' official companion, the 50-135 f/3.5 Ai-s.
One more 16mm f/3.5 AI on D500 crop sensor. You're likely looking at the 2019 IMSA champions's car. I'm heading to Road Atlanta tomorrow for the season finale on Saturday. Two MF lenses in my bag, the 16mm and the 55mm f/1.2.

Who are all these characters liking my photos? Oh my god... I look at the list and they're all regulars on this thread, some names I haven't seen for a long time. Thanks everyone.
Thanks Scott for your kind words about flowers. I often feel my contributions are a bit mundane and repetitive given the offerings by folks who travel or explore interesting subjects. But what can we do? If given the opportunity both financially and energywise to bounce around the world taking travel photos I'd be gone, but alas I live a simple life. My guess is some among you understand... Jack, perhaps. My old boss said "old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill" but that doesn't account for diminished energy and physical stamina. My mind is still sharp as a tack but 12 mile hikes are a thing of the past. Four or five miles perhaps but three to four seems standard nowadays. I guess I should be grateful to be able to do that at 78 years of age.
So thanks again folks. I am feeling a bit inspired being here among my cyber friends. I think I'll take my camera with me as I ramble into the afternoon. Who knows what I might find...
Fall colors starting to show a little and the weather is finally cooling down. I was cleaning up some lenses tonight and the light through the trees in the front yard caught my eye. So took this shot from the front porch.
