Hey guys, I'm hoping y'all can help me out here. I got a 100 f/2.8 Series E for $70 that looks and feels new except for this defect/fungus/oil on the inside of the front element. I'm on the fence about returning it since it was only $70 and it's seeming like such a good lens otherwise, but I've never seen this before.
To the naked eye it looks like a little oil slick, but looking at the photo leaves me with no idea.

Pretty sure there are some guides online to open that lens up. Some ammonia or nose oil will wipe that off.
Yeah, I actually found a real in-depth repair post with a video right after I posted (link, if anyone cares). I didn't think it'd be as straight-forward as it is, but it seems there's not much to a budget four-element lens. Who knew?!

Jay,I really like the last capture!
Colin really nice Hong Cong capture I like the PANO's.
Here is a set from early today at an interesting site, the Empire Mine, an iron mine, which is located due south of Negaunee/Ishpeming Michigan. Long thought by conspiracy theorists to be the secret site of the White House/government operations in the event of a nuclear attack.
A 13 shot PANO with the NOCT. The "mountain" in the rear is not a mountain at all. They are tailings from the iron mine which is miles deep. The shot is a 180 degrees and from left to right about a 3/4 mile ( 1 km) distance.
The last is a pyramid that Robin's dad built early on in his career....Show more →
Some funky stitching going on here Ken. Was this LR? Thought it would do a better job.
How much overlap do you leave? I tend to go for 1/3 of the previous frame in the new one.
Sometimes less is more. Would be interesting to remove some of the frames and re-stitch to see if it can handle the utility wires.

Colin, no to the question on a lot of overlap. Perhaps 15%. Was roadside and whats not shown was the number of mine trucks passing on my left. Waiting for them to pass was a PITA.
I do think the major factor was the small laptop I used to create the PANO. Looked quite good until posted. So to answer your question with 20/20 hindsight I don't think I should have tackled this PANO so aggressively ie: smaller sections, then combined the sections.
At any rate the awesome size of the Empire Iron mine was what I was trying to capture.
Send it back if it wasn't mentioned in the description.

Another 50/2 image from Victoria Peak.
This one was taken later after the blue hour (~5 mins) had evapourated so slightly different processing this time.
