George, does ON1 RAW 2019 recognise Z6 files? I read somewhere only Z7? Thanks.
I'm leaving LR and will migrate to ON1
Still waiting for mine.

Chris - I have ON1 Photo RAW 2018.5 and it is reading Z6 Nef files.

I still like the Lightroom workflow better with NIK plug-ins. I got ON1 the other year and never really made the migration.

Will see how Adobe tweaks the Z profiles over the next couple updates. I like the processing results (full camera profile support, even in camera special settings) in the free Nikon Capture NX-D, but as someone who works with User Interface and Usability for software programs the software could use some improvement. Nikon has never been stellar with software development

I'm doing something similar, George. I have ON1 and I use it as a plug-in with LR, but I stick with LR because of its plug-in capabilities that allow me to use the NIK software as well.

You can customise the workflow in ON1 for 99% the same as LR.
It has a lot more. AFAIK one can use the NIK-plugins as well, but they have their own filters too.
So far I like it. It has layers as well. I think I can do 97% (or more) of the PP in On1. For only a few things I have to go to PS.
Once I've migrated (170K images ) I'll dump PS for Affinity Photo.
I'm not going to subscribe for Adobe!

I have a question for all you Z6 shooters with the adapter....I heard heard that you have to use stop down metering because the adapter lacks an AI tab, or something like that. Many see it as a big negative, although I am seeing great images here. Can someone describe the process and workflow for this to me?

I'd like to say that my decision to leave my last full-time job when I was 47 was a mark of my wisdom, but alas I had no idea at the time that I'd never have a full-time job again. I did know, however, that I was walking away from quite a bit of money and future financial security. At the moment that was not at the top of my concerns as I ventured into an uncertain, but intriguing future. I certainly didn't become homeless and I found ways to support myself with reasonable comfort. Definitely I haven't suffered, but there is a limit to the number of toys I can enjoy along the way. My guess from what you've shared over the years Rafael, that your job offers challenges and rewards that keep you there. And I'm not talking simply about pay and benefits. I hear pride in your voice as you point to the work you've done. That, of course, is a wonderful thing. I can still speak with pride about the Vallejo City Hall for which I was project coordinator from design development through construction. I wrote and administered a dozen contracts. Even now when I walk into the building I see the results of decisions I made 40 years ago as I worked with architect and contractors. I picked out artwork still hanging on the walls of offices and corridors. So I've no doubt much of what you do both challenges you and gives you pride. Sounds good to me. My choice to leave came from a need to explore other worlds. I don't regret my decision. My guess is you're quite content with the decisions you've made as well Rafael. Happy holidays to you and yours.

Hey Glen. You might be interested in the Living/Dying Project newsletter that was mailed out last week. I did the graphic design for the document as well as sharing one of my photos on the front page and a brief article about a friend who died in September that appears on the third page. On page four is a quote I much appreciate that speaks to the line you share. It is from a Zen Buddhist teacher named Uchiyama Roshi. I've been much immersed over the last year in reading early Zen Buddhist writings, i.e., the Shobogenzo by Dogen, a 13th Century master who founded Soto Zen Buddhism. Enjoy the newsletter.

That reminds me of the old line... "Any day above ground is a great day..."

Yes, feeling SOMETHING is better than its opposite. Remarkably, this has been a very rich year despite the paucity of photography along the way. It seems photography has become a bit stale for me. That was why I acted quickly yesterday when I awoke to see that color leaf nestled in the green fronds of that tree. I was literally on by back, raising my head from the pillow and saw that leaf through the front window of my cottage. I knew immediately that I needed to pull out the 400mm lens to get a close shot... just like old times when thoughts of which lens, which shooting angle was right.

And, of course, visiting the thread itself is always a treat. Over EIGHT years it is quite easy to develop friendships with kindred spirits. Let's see what the coming weeks hold and whether I find juice for this conversation. It could happen. It could even happen that I'd take the time to process a few photos and share them on the thread... wouldn't that be something...

Me too. I really like On1, but I keep going back to what I know best, LR.

You know, I haven't felt the need to use NIK since I made the switch to Fuji and it's Acros simulation.

I did the same thing. I just made the switch to On1 2019. I've been using Affinity for a while now, even though I had PS. I've just never gotten along with PS. I love LR, but paying the monthly fee got old real fast.

Robert - for the manual lenses it is stop down metering, but the advantage is, that you truly see what you get in the electronic viewfinder. You see what the sensor sees. No guessing on what your exposure results are.

For "dumb" lenses - Ai, Ai-s (those without CPU) you can still shoot Aperture Priority mode or Manual mode and have full metering modes Matrix, Center, Spot and Highlight Weighted. You control the aperture from the aperture ring on the lens.

For Manual Focus CPU lenses like the AI-P 45mm and 500mm and those which may have been modified with CPU chips like the Dandelion chips you have all shooting modes available Auto, P, S, A and M as well as full metering modes. With those lenses you have to control the aperture from the front sub command dial when shooting Aperture Priority or Manual modes, you do not have the ability to transfer aperture control to the lens ring like you can on DSLRs. Aperture has to be sent to minimum aperture for automatic control. Else you get the F-- error. For Auto, P and S modes camera controls the aperture just like in DSLRs

Autofocus Lens type G and D everything as above for CPU lenses but you loose Auto Focus ability since those lenses do not have an AF motor in the lens and requires the screw drive motor function in camera. The FTZ adapter does not have that motor.

For AF-S lenses you have full capability just like you do on a DSLR.

Have been playing around with the Z in camera profiles too. They have multiple black and white modes and the ability to customize. But have to agree with Leighton. That Fuji Acros simulation is sweeeeet.
