I've been viewing travelogues on Istanbul this morning and feel compelled to post a photo from the trip I took there. Amazingly, that was FIVE years ago. Time certainly flies. Apologies to old timers who've seen those photos. I may just post one, but there is no telling what I might do. This was shot from the entrance of Topkapi palace toward the Blue Mosque. As folks who pay attention know, the names I give to images always includes the lens used... which is helpful for me since I don't always remember. This was shot with the 85 f/1.4 AI-s. These were before pre-AI lenses appeared on the horizon for me...
Am enjoying the Scotland photos Steve. As I'm driving through West Marin I often think of the hills of Scotland. These photos make me think of California... amazingly. Of course, I'm not aware of ANY peat in California, so at least in one respect Scotland has an advantage. Personally, as much as I appreciate a fine glass of wine... nothing is better than an Islay single malt Scotch whisky...
Clearly Chin, you have too much disposable income, if you believe you NEED a Fuji camera.
Of course, with the Metabone adaptor you're safe and we'll happily entertain your photos when you're shooting with OUR favorite lenses. It was fortuitous that we changed out guidance some time back when we began entertaining photos taken with other camera systems. The test, of course, will be whether you go the Leighton way and sell Nikkor lenses while adding Fuji AF lenses, or the way of Philippe who continues to do outstanding work with our favorite lenses mounted on a Sony camera. You're young enough that you can still turn the focusing ring and actually see in the viewfinder what is in focus, so you have no excuse... except, perhaps, for wanting to capture your boy as he runs around the park...
AF has its place, no doubt. But variety is the spice of life, or so I've been told. Pulling out an MF Nikkor every once in a while will keep you sharp Chin. Good to see you on the thread.
B-b-but my back says I absolutely need it! I can't even carry a sling bag anymore. A lighter kit is all that. The smaller package and weight are truly amazing, can't believe they crammed so much camera into that tiny box.
Thinking aloud I am surprised I held on to the D700 for so long, and I may still continue to use that as my indoors camera. Something something fat pixels.
You're right, I have been divesting myself of Nikon lenses. "To raise funds" as I put forth a solid proposal, a grandiose speech and an even snazzier set of presentation slides to my wife the other day. Luckily they are AF stuff and it's finally down to just the 14-24 beast. I am loth to rehome it for all the adventures we've had.
Checking the tally, it's even stevens for what I sold them for vs purchase price, which is incredible considering I've kept some of those lenses for years. I don't think new stuff would, a quicker release cycle and the commodification of camera equipment methinks.
Still. That will be my one and only fuji lens. Word to my poodle.
Seriously, having contended with what is ONLY a rash for a few days, I'm not about to diminish physical challenges of whatever sort. I know I was happy to move from the D700 to the Df and I know Fuji cameras tend to be much smaller. If it works, so be it. Now you want to couple the Fuji with a 50 f/1.8 AI-s and your back and wallet will thank you. Certainly, there is no shame in SELLING AF lenses to make a change in your kit. I sold 12 AF Canon lenses to pay for my Nikon adventure... and I'm glad I did.
Have fun my friend. Wonderful to see your father with his grandchild. It really does take a village, or at the very least a family to raise a child.

Sorry about the old back, I know what you mean. The weight and the fact I was losing so many shots using my MF for work was the determining factor for my switch to Fuji.

Ram, I'm enjoying the cat photos, especially so since this beauty looks much like the cat who was part of my life as a boy, a big furry male. When I was about five years old I came home with my companion's mother who had been abandoned in a nearby field, no doubt because she was pregnant. I'd been bringing home strays for years and my parents apparently decided to let me keep one of the kittens. I remain a cat fancier though I have to satisfy myself by playing with cats I encounter during my rambles since my landlady insists on NO cats.
I agree, the 400 f/3.5 is a fine performer. Thanks for these photos....Show more →
The interesting thing was that I was looking to capture birds sitting in the trees and I observed the cat jump onto the roof and get interested in the birds. My daughter had quite fun seeing the scene.
Looking at my flickr account, I see that cat photos have gained the most views. Here is the top cat photos from my collection just for you.

That would be #5
Cheryle has one for sale now
I have considered a D700 again but would rather have something newer...(maybe)
No adapters for me
It would have to be
Nikon Camera......Nikon Lens
I still have 3 of them

I just picked up a 50 F1.2 and a 135 F2.8. Naturally, I wanted the first couple shots I took with it to be at 1.2, plane of focus be damned.

Aren't you trying to collect every serial number of the D700?

I still have the one I got from you. I'm selling, just not aggressively.
