And to think I owned a 1979 model (Type 2) for a few years..... just like this one
Our only modification was truck mirrors. There was also another one on base that belonged to an officer. We'd get saluted as we pulled up to the gates...

those buses sell for $100 grand these days...
HA HA HA HA... oh my. The one I had would leave us stranded if we went more than a 200 mile trip. I didn't know how to pop the clutch at first, so I would get out and push, and my husband would pop the clutch to start it. The starter motor would demagnetize after a 200 mile trip, and it would take a couple days for it to resolve. Thankfully we lived at the top of a hill so when we got home, I wasn't having to push. Figured that out finally
I finally got stranded one time without him, going UP a hill, at a light, and the clutch cable broke and had to figure out how shift without the clutch. Thankfully got that figured out, and wound up coming up on a VW dealership on my way to where I was headed...got that fixed as well. Oh the times with that thing...

Don't you understand Rafael?... because it is LIGHTER... That's important when shooting with a 400 f/2.8 AI-s, right?
I understand that many of our friends are shooting with Fuji and Sony cameras. I've no doubt they have their reasons, but when shooting with monster telephoto lenses, it doesn't make much sense to me. Different strokes I guess...

I think you did well Colin. As you likely know, I've bought THREE copies of this lens... which is surely evidence of a serious problem... Of course, I love the lens and in fact took one of the three copies for a spin yesterday. I finally got around to processing a few images. Here are four photos shot wide open with what is a mint condition copy. This was the last one I purchased and like yours, it was not well described when I ran across it on Craigslist. There was just enough information that I contracted the seller and my guess was right. I didn't buy it cheap, though it was the least expensive of the three I bought. I love how it performs. It is a really excellent focal length.
The background of the California poppy is a bit unsettling but the rest are quite fine. I find the out of focus areas of the 55 f/1.2 S.C. easier to view than those found with the 50 f/1.2 AI-s, my first fast lens. Give us a report after you've had a chance to play. The focal plane is razor thin... Congratulations!
Curtis, you saying I have more than a serious problem? oops I jjust saw your posting, you just came out and said it outright!!! Can't say you are wrong.
Love the VW van, would trade both my Corvettes for that one.
My ramble with the 55 f/1.2 S.C. AI on Thursday was a wonderful reminder of what a great performer the lens is. I love the focal length for street photography. Of course, Phillipe has been demonstrating that fact with great flair. Here are a few more from my afternoon jaunt.

Yes, but since I have a milder version of the same disease I'm not about to complain. You have ALWAYS been an inspiration on this thread and I know I'm not alone in saying that. Your gear photos add much to the conversation and no doubt makes converts of folks who wander into this thread. You rather set the gold standard when it comes to finding pristine lenses. Yes, pristine lenses may not take better photos, but they add another dimension to appreciating these lenses. I share your enthusiasm for these beauties...
Well, I think you and Rafael developed a plan to raise the cost of these lenses... So you're acquiring each good copy from the market, in order to increase the request and the value... That's why Reagan sit away, investing in beer and cars...
You could be right Mihai, though I've yet to pay over $375 for one of these lenses... which makes it a STEAL compared with your NOCT...
Got out yesterday for another walk, but I got lazy and used the 85mm f1.8 AFD. Inspired by Ken's series with the 105mm f4.0 micro ais...I went to see my chickies with one. The four girls talked a bunch when they first saw me (Its been about 10 days), but it's hard to interpret any emotion coming from a chicken with a mere streak of neural tissue.
