While Jim waits for his. I don't have a lot of use for a 105mm that has more than 1m MFD, but it's so compact and built beautifully it needs to be taken out from time to time. This is the pre-AI version from the serial number range 281- which is the last range ending around 1971. I wasn't born yet, then. When I use it, I sometimes think of the first owner. I'm thankful for it having been looked after so well.
Some rain-drunk garden decor.
NIKKOR-P Auto 105mm f/2.5 + Z5 | F5.6
Even at F8 there is not a lot of depth of field. I like the compression.
Evening in the city, Series E 50mm f/1.8 and A7 (OG). Much as I like the Z system, I love using a small, Fx package again. @Leighton, first one’s for you!
Great series Matt. Love the compositions. And of course I am a fan of black and white.

This morning with the Nikkor-S.C 55mm f1.2 factory ai'd - eyeballing the focus, because they never hold still long enough for the green dot. The rendering of this lens is very different from the 50mm f1.2 ais - it is more painterly.

Very nice semi-candid portraits.
I was curious to see a comparison between the 55mm and 50mm you mentioned. So I went back four or five pages looking for some of the previous little-ones shots I thought I remembered. I didn't find what I thought I remembered I saw. So I don't really understand your comment about how different they are. Could you post one of each, please? I'd love to see the "painterly" difference!
Wasn't the Nikkor-S.C 55mm f1.2 Nikon's 1st attempt at producing their 50-sh f/1.2 lens?
I recall getting my Nikkor 50mm f1.2 AI-S brand new in 2011 after considering Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/1.2 (hard to get in mint-condition, got immaculate Minolta Rokkor 58mm f/1.2 MC instead) and Nikkor-S.C 55mm f1.2, which was hard to find converted. At the end, the older, full of optical imperfections lenses have their charm, specially for portraiture work. So, please have the images coming.
Still available brand new, boxed, from selected sources: Nikkor 50mm f1.2 AI-S , shot WO
The lenses have subtle and I find charming differences. My factory ai'd 55mm f1.2 Nikkor-S.C is from approximately 1973, and the Nikkor 50mm f1.2 ais is from about 2004. Here are the differences. The 50mm ais is sharper wide open, has a bit more DOF wide open, more contrast, deeper saturated colors, and better edge and corner sharpness. It is exactly for many of these differences that I prefer the 55mm for portraits. They are softer wide open, have less contrast, muted colors, and it isolates the subject via a smaller central focus area. Lets see if I can demonstrate this at MFD (0.6 & 0.5 meters) on my desk

Thank you. The differences in those pairs are real but some are subtle. I'm not sure I could choose one over the other, or even see the differences, for portraits of a human face in less constructed environment. But I have no experience with such portraits attempts.
Did Mrs. Potatohead like the portrait of her husband? It captures his personality, I think.
Great way to enter back into posting images here Andy! We NEED images from way over there, especially with your eye.

Even with a scolding it's nice to see you here Samy. Don't be a stranger.

@jimmuller in case you are wondering, this is the "official" lens of this thread. It's a pre-requisite for full membership!
