are you sure nobody's starting at the beginning and going thru slowly?

I got an email from Google Photo telling me they have over 10,000 of my photos! They provided a link so I could see what they have. Old timers perhaps recall when Google bought a photo hosting website called "Picasa." I used that site for a great many years, but then they shut it down. Blessedly, the did not discard my images so links to early photos listed on this website were never broken. But I could not add new photos. That led me to Flickr which was being used by a number of folks on this thread. I mentioned that I culled photos from my Flickr account... losing about 3,000 photos so I could rid myself of the monthly fee for using the account. I'd been reviewing all of those commitments I'd made over times that amounted to a good size monthly outlay. I decided I wan't using Flickr enough to give them ten bucks a month.
Now Google is back, offering to automatically scrape ALL of photos and drop them in the cloud. I haven't read the small print but I thought I'd experiment to see if I can post photos from Google again. They gave me a link to a photo taken in 2016 with the Df and my favorite lens, the 55 f/1.2. S.C. AI. Here goes...
So the link is here but no photo. This clearly won't work... unless there is a work around. Any ideas? I know that Flickr provides BBC codes and apparently at one time Google had an extension that would do that... but it no longer is available. Perhaps I'll simply ignore Google's approach to me, always grateful that they didn't pull the plug on those early photos NO ONE is looking at any more...

Phong you are in a scenic area. Liked the architecture of the housing in your previous post.
Thanks Saph.
Many photos taken during this trip. I will post them gradually.
Those were the days my friend... up all night in cold weather to make sure those younguns survive. You were young then, right? It was lovely sharing those moments with you and Barbara. Your photos added a great deal to this thread my friend.
I'm sure there are options available to host photos without a charge but I'm content with posting an occasional photo with Flickr. I have a few hundred to go before I'll be pushing the 1000 photo limit. BUT having 10,000 photos out there already it seems a shame I can't post them here. I've already sent links to a couple of friends with photos from years ago, but I don't imagine I'll be spending a great deal of time on Google Photos, despite the fact they offer over 20 gigabytes of free storage. They don't want folks to share photos unless the sharing process keeps them in the center... as though they're not making enough money already! Needless to say, photo hosting sites need to make money. One way to do that is what Flickr has done... offer a free account that binds photographers to the site, hoping they will eventually wish to have a pro account. Again, were I active as a photographer I'd think nothing about paying ten bucks a month to have easy access to my work that can then be easily shared. That is not where I am at this stage of my life. If I bump up against the limit I'll cull the herd again. Every photo still resides on two or three hard drives sitting near me, accessible to me if I need them...

Possibly there are a few people WITH TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS, who will read the thread AND open each photo since they only exist at links in that section of the thread. I certainly don't blame Fred for lightening the burden on his servers. In reality there is so much shared now of high quality, there really isn't much to be gained by going back, except perhaps for those of us who were here at the time. I can imagine reliving the conversations with friends who were active at one time and then moved on... or passed away. The first time a NOCT appeared... the first time for many special lenses in fact. There has always been friendly banter on this thread with much good humor. But as Thomas Wolfe book title says You Can't Go Home Again.. We're making new memories... even as. you're doing at the moment while traveling in Ireland. There is nothing that stirs a photographer more than visiting new territory. I know you're having a blast. I'm happy for you Laura.
My mind is melting here... what is happening at the bottom of this photo. It appears a second photo has been imposed on the first. The edges of the shadow make no sense to this aging mind. What am I seeing?

Curtis, you have to look carefully. At first glance you may not notice that the deck actually has a path coming down from the one above and then in turn curves back down yet again. If the lens was wider, it would be more obvious to see the curves. The more you look, the more you see in Phong's two images. I love it!

Plus a few mirrors thrown in to confuse the eye even further.

I see the descending staircase. What is confusing to me is the group of four men that appear to be under a shadow which makes no sense given the configuration of what is above them and the fact on either side of them is a perfectly straight edge that cuts off what appears to be on that deck AND cuts in half the yellow container in the shadow.. Colin mentions a mirror but I don't understand how that would work. Then the stool sitting in front of the four men casts one shadow on the deck (which is consistent with other shadows) and a different one within the shadow where the men stand. I haven't taken any LSD today so I know I'm not hallucinating...
I hope this is acceptable but I’d rather offer it up here first… purging some stuff and have these Nikon MF accessories. Free to a good home, take the lot and I’ll even ship it for you. Several Nikon hoods, filters, F3 booklet. I’ll say pics were taken with a MF Nikkor but it was really an iPhone.

Yea, right, I was young.
My original Flickr account got to large without purchasing the pro account, so since I'm not posting images like I once was, I opted to make another account.

Matt, our unofficial policy on the thread has always been that if you pay for the Upload & Sell, then by all means, it's fine to post here first. And since you have, go for it!

That's funny Leighton... I composed a post similar to yours about offering gear for sale but somehow it got lost in the ether. Perhaps you noticed he is giving this gear away, so he is doubly good.
When you say "I opted to make another account" you mean an account with another hosting website... Blogger is where the Nikki thread resides, right? That has been there a long time. Nice to know they offer photo hosting as well. I'll check them out on the off chance I go crazy again.
Somehow I have almost 30,000 images processed AND 170,000 Nikon photos taken the last eight years... I probably took more than that in the first six years this thread was alive. That is embarrassing. My friend George would come back from a long trip and share what he'd shot. It could be thirty photos or less. He has a VERY discerning eye and I can't stop pressing the shutter button.
Right now, it's "I don't want to go back!" I just want to stay and explore. But I have seven indoor cats, and 3-5 outdoor cats who depend on me...

Curtis, now I see what you are talking about. It is the first image. The image of the woman taking pictures is reflected on glass behind her. My only thought is that this is a reflected image shot facing the reflecting surface, maybe a window, glass? Phong will have to tell us if he wishes to reveal the secret, but however done, it is well seen and taken!

When I had Nippi and took it with me to San Diego, I decided to do what I have been doing with my Fuji’s and essentially imagine how many rolls of film I would have bought for the event and try not to shoot more than that. So the trip I was on, I guesstimated 10 rolls of 36 exposures. I went over by one roll. I shot 397. I’ve been doing that with my Fujis for a while and that forces me to think about what I’m shooting and be a bit more deliberate. The biggest benefit has been less shots to cull through.
