Shot with the Nikon D600 and 55mm f/1.2 AI lens (8 sec, f/2.8, ISO 6400)
This is a mosaic of 48 photos, resulting in a final image that's equivalent to a single 352.3 megapixel photo taken with a 15mm f/0.76 lens. I really wish I could afford to switch over the Z system and get the 50mm f/1.2 S, but the old 55mm f/1.2 AI lens isn't too shabby.
Given that California is such a hotbed of infection right now... you should probably post something at least once a week to allay fears. Extended absences nowadays...
A number of search parties have ventured out to make certain I am still alive... I am. But don't ask if I'm having fun because spending days on end inside is not much fun. But I know I'm not alone in contending with coronavirus so I'm not complaining. I'm grateful that at least up until now I've not come down with the virus. As my age it is much safer to stay out of the hospital and avoid doctor's appointments!
I know I've been absent for quite some time but I have confidence the usual suspects will keep this conversation going. As I've often said, I may have started this thread but it really belongs to everyone who chooses to spend time here.
I'll check back this weekend to see how folks are doing. Needless to say I wish everyone here the best possible holiday. Sue and I have completed FOUR jigsaw puzzles since Thanksgiving... which is amazing since in our 35 years of knowing one another we've never before done a jigsaw puzzle. I don't think we're alone. Take care everyone... as we are fond of saying... Be well and stay safe!...Show more →
I loved what you were!
The free spirits at Cal.
The years of surfing with dolphins and scratching seal tummies.
The Spanish flavor savored everywhere, buildings, culture, and food alike; home away from cradle.
The endless coast and majestic sierra.
The Baja surf expeditions to induct new friends into the brotherhood of Corona, camp fires, and sleeping on the beach with the stars for a roof.
The desert unlimited bonfires with a mind traveling the universe.
That looks very dry, rafael. I am a bit relived that these are pictures from a while ago. Hope things have gotten better since.
Question for those that a familiar with Apple products. An issue that bugs me with this website is how horrible it is presented on iOS. I don’t have this issue on Android devices with the experience there mirroring the desktop. Basically the moment there are pictures on a thread page the width of each post is different. So in a page with different size images there is a lot of moving sideways with seemingly no ability to reduce or magnify the page to make it more readable. Is this the norm? I wish I could describe the issue better but summary is it’s bad and quite frustrating. No other website behaves this bad.
Been doing a lot of shooting but not much processing. Catching up slowly
These are from Cheung Island from a couple of weeks ago. Cheung Chau is the most populated of all of HK's 250 islands with around 20,000 people living there. Mostly fishing and tourism. Lots of great places to eat and some decent beaches. Even a 3,000 yo rock carving. We walked the 10km trail which circles much of the island.
Taken with the F100 & Kodak Portra 400. Nikkor-O 35/2 & Nikkor-SC 55/1.2.

Siphiwe, Socal is a desert, we get our water from the snows in the sierra and the rio colorado. Anything green is irrigation.
I haven't noticed it, but then again, the rare occasions I've used my phone to view here, I've used Firefox on there, not Safari.

NNL, awesome photograph. I bet the processing was a heck of a lot of work. You need to borrow one of the monster screens in Time Square to see the file in its full glory.
Dean great color in your captures, the Kodak Portra 400 rocks! Cheung Chau is one beautiful place.
The Palace Hotel which is temporarily closed but they were nice enough to help bring some Holiday cheer.
Serge, nice cheery view from NYC! I see you made it to Rockefeller Center tree and skating rink. It was quite packed the time I was there many years ago. I made it to the top of the building, good views, including the NYC nightscape.
Dean cool showcase of Portra 400 colours.
Rafael, beautiful scenes that connect with your memories. First time around LA a few years ago, I realized how dry the landscape was.
Noah, excellent astro-work on the Milky way image. The 50 1.2S is very interesting indeed, although I am still intrigued by the 50 1.8S and 85 1.8S.
Siphiwe, nice greenery and colours again! The 24 2.8N is an under-appreciated nice small wide angle.

Thanks, Samy. It was not so easy this year as views of the skating rink were mostly off limits. I visited the area three times and got lucky once. It was not packed this year, very far from it. Under normal circumstances, it is bumper to bumper traffic with less than zero social distancing.
rafael, I did not know that. Based on the neighbourhood pictures you have shared with your various lens tests, I assumed “normal” landscape.
Samy, thank you. It is indeed a nice lens that I must learn to shoot with more.
Laura, you gave me an idea. Thank you. I borrowed an iPhone to test with and it is perfect. iPad is the broken one. I don’t remember it ever being okay. I gave up when I had a Mini years ago and yesterday tried on a normal iPad and remembered why I stopped. Not to worry, no one has ever complained so I’ll just continue avoiding it.
Although the SE of England is under a Tier 4, Stay-At-Home, order I had an allowable reason (daughter's house move) to travel to London recently. The mainline trains were practically empty - about 3 people per carriage. Paddington station was like a ghost town. Here are a few frames from the journey.
how old is the ipad? I have two of the first ipads, and no issues there, either

Dean, Cheung Chau looks interesting. I'm enjoying your travels in HK that show that even in a crowded nation space can be found. The color of the ocean in the first shot is just beautiful.
Serge, it'll be awhile before the wife and I plan any trip to NYC; we keep talking about it and I've never actually been there. Thanks for sharing your shots to allow some virtual travel. The tree at the Palace Hotel is beautiful.
Samy, love the treatment of that cat pic. Well done!
Colin, that certainly looks weird for a train station to be so empty. Glad you are able to travel safely.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas (for those who observe Christmas), and a Happy New Year to all.
Colin, tough times with the new variant spreading so quickly.
Are those underground trains upgraded since that time couple years ago I took one back to my hotel? Somehow I don't remember them being so modern-looking.
Stay safe!

Finally getting around to more development. Ilford Ortho Plus (ISO 80) developed in HC-110 for 5 minutes. While I was already at the fixer stage I remembered the 5 minutes was from my instructions for dry plates and for sheets it should have been 6 minutes, but they turned out okay.
Linhof Master Technika and Nikkor-SW 90 f8 for each of the pics.

5th Generation about 3 years old with ver 14.2 software. I tried a few things, including deleting history and website data. I then reduced Page Zoom to 50%. That seems the only way to read without having to scroll side to side. However, at that Zoom level, text becomes too small. Only portrait pictures fit. From 75% Page Zoom, all landscape pictures are cut off, requiring the sideways scroll to see. At 100% Zoom, not even the portrait pictures fit. I appreciate you trying to figure it out Laura but it's not worth the pain and suffering.
I've also tried an old 3rd Gen with 9.3 OS. Same story but slightly better in that it tries to fit the biggest picture into the page at the expense of text-only and smaller picture posts. So, those become way small in relation. Basically, it scales the width of the page to the biggest picture in the page and makes everything else smaller. I am baffled why this only appears to be happening to me then. The landing page is fine. It's only when I click on a topic that things fall apart. E.g. Page 1250(this page) is a mess. Every post is sized individually, with everything scaled down relative to rafael's pond picture.
