Been trying to get something of the Orion Nebula lately...
This is a HDR composite of three stacks. Great conditions but I had problems with my scope and didn't get enough good frames to get the noise down. ISO 1600, 20, 40, and 60 seconds.
Didn't frame it very well... a lot to learn still!
Driving by a frozen lake I noticed three sandhill cranes. After I got home I grabbed my E-M1 + P-L 100-400 and returned. Initially the cranes had moved to the far shore, and were too far away to get good shots. But not long afterwards they ventured back out onto the lake and one of them started trying to drive another off (I assume two males).
I missed some great shots because the camera focused on the tall grass in the background rather than the birds. My technique needs improvement. Afterwards I wished I'd switched to manual and to a higher ISO (had it on auto and camera selected 200).
The cranes were never very close. Except when they'd separated and I wanted to get both in the shot the lens was at 400mm, and cropped even then.
If I catch them in the same place in the future I might have to knock on a doorr and ask permission to venture into the back yard of one of the lakefront homes to get closer.
