If I ever had an image that demonstrates the importance of a background this would be it. This hawk was hunting in a park and he perched on the fence of a tennis court. I didn't bother with a shot there as I already had some decent ones of him perched in a tree. But when I saw him ready to take off I hoped for the best. The camera and lens did their jobs but a useless image because of the BG.

Great pic of the hawk.
What IS/IBIS settings do you use for BIF and do you change those settings for static/perched?

Thanks Paul. Funny you should ask this. I'm very much still in the stage of finding the right settings and determining just what this setup can and can't do well. I've been meaning to post a question here for you guys that are more familiar to try and get some feedback. I haven't yet because I haven't had a chance to look over previous threads and I don't want to be redundant. One big observation for me so far has been the Bird Subject detect seems to work great for a flying bird but seems to really struggle with a perched bird ??
I believe when I shot that hawk I would have been in C-AF and S-IS Auto
