i found the mutar 2x mkii at 75,00 euros and i bought it for test
i am astonished by how good is when the shot is steady and exact focus . i close the f at 8 and the result is very good !
this is a 600mm lens . have you found many options at this mm and at this result ?
i have a panasonic S1 .
i found a trustworthy guy who owned also mk1 and told me that the result was crappy with VS .
This one told about the mk2 mutar and i am very happy with the result .
The zeiss say that is incompatible because you have 1st to set the 100-300 at 150mm in order to avoid hit the rear element . since the attachment is done there is no problem with the glass , the metals touch each other but nothing to worry about ..... at the end you don't need an extender to use the 100-300 lens at 100mm ...
Just got lucky and bought a very good copy (appearance more or less like new, sharpness great, smooth operation, very little zoom creep, "jumbo" serial number) for just €399 here in Germany! YAY!

When getting a good copy of this lens, put it in the 'never sell' list. There is still nothing like it.
At first I thought my copy would be a bit tilted, especially at 100mm. Upper left corner unsharp again and again. Not dramatic, but a bit worrying for a passionate pixel peeper...
But it seems to be a problem with the Sony IBIS. When I raise the ISO and get higher shutter speeds (1/200 or shorter), the unsharpness problem doesn't occur.
Aside from that, my impression is that, while the microcontrast and general rendering is "whoa", this lens at the same time is "high dynamic range" - it seems to subdue the highlights a bit so that less underexposing / shadow boost in post is necessary. Easy to expose and easy to postprocess.

Modern zooms like the FE 100-400 GM can match its resolution and even beat it at the corners, especially at the 200-300mm range but when viewed side by side, I think Contax images still win on micro contrast and color. It's a special sauce.
The Contax 100-300 is also quite compact in comparison to our newer AF zooms.
If your copy is slightly tilted at the wide range and it shows at the same location throughout the zoom, it's likely a mount tilt and/or swing which could be corrected by adding shims to the right section of the mount.
