If you want an excellent landscape lens and would like a zeiss for under $1,000 in addition to the ZE/ZF 35mm f/2, I would recommend consider the Contax/Yashica 28mm f/2.8 (for around $400-$500) or the ZF 25mm f/2.8 (for around $700-$800), both are great for landscapes stopped down. You are considering very different focal lengths, however, so you might want to figure out what focal length you most prefer for landscapes. For less than a $1,000 you might be able to get two lenses, but depending on what you decide you will may only be able to get one and if so make sure it is a focal length you like.
Sorry this thread is getting off topic... ZF 25mm/2.8 would be a great lens except it's Nikon mount. Is there a good canon converter you know of? I heard the C/Y 35-70 was good and I'm considering that but for some reason I like primes. I don't think I'm a good enough photographer to shoot with a zoom.
Ideally I'd like a 35mm or wider, a 50ish-mm, and my 90mm tamron to take to Ireland.

Here are some images taken with the 58mm that I'm looking at. Not my photograph, just some samples taken with the lens. It looks okay to me.... Does it look like it's a decent example of the lens?
Overall, I'm happy with these two lenses, the bokeh and color is great from the MD 50/1,4. The 50/2.8 Sigma Macro is extremely small. Similar to a Nikon AIS 28 or 50/1.4. Well built and light to boot. Both lenses are a little cool.
@plasticmotf that sigma seems to be an interesting one, i'm on the lookout for a lens more compact than my MC Macro Rokkor 50/3.5. Does it do 1:2 or 1:2? do you like the bokeh?

I haven't really even had time before today to test it out. I shot loads with the 50/1.4. I used the sigma extensively today. I'll post pics Sunday when I return home.
Phillip, as promised, I put the lens through the paces this weekend.
It's easily becoming my favorite lens on the NEX. I wish it were faster. I wish it were a hair sharper wide open. but, it's tiny for a 1:1 macro. It's got great color, about the right amount of contrast and killer bokeh.

seeing all these photos makes me sad, as my blades got stuck again :/
Sorry to hear that, you probably need to use it every day or it could stick.
My HH 35/1.8 has oily blades but seems free enough after working the blades a bit that I might not need to clean it for a while,
but there is a good covering of dust on the lenses, so I could be cleaning for that depending on how the pictures look.
