Are these all wide open? They seem very soft, the last looks to be the sharpest. I'm guessing stopping down a lot will still give a thin depth of field but with much more sharpness.
the dreamy atmosphere in the pictures is nice, BUT...
i see the same effect, if i use my Rokkors with Achromat. The DOF is too little. If you stop down a bit, you should get a much much better performance. (maybe ...)
No no no, all the advice is good.
Was my first try using a bellows, and not really good conditions for it.
And then too, these were essentially raw files, as almost anyone can process things from mild to wild... http://www.cornbread.com/~buggz/_MG_5640-processed.jpg

@twoeye...great wide open shot with the 58! My 58 isn't quite that sharp wide open, but at f2, it is very sharp!
Here is a bokeh comparison between my 50L and Rokkor 58 1.2 on a 1D4...no PP done at all. Pics were raw-LR3.5(dng)-to picasaweb...
I think the Rokkor has some pretty impressive bokeh!! Maybe the extra 8mm has something to do with it, but I'm not altogether positive on that??!! I think my 50L is def sharper wide open, but both are VERY sharp stopped down. I think I missed focus by a touch on the 50L@f4....
Anyways, tell me what you think!

If the link doesn't work, try copy/paste...
I have done some PP to my image above, giving it a local boost in contrast, sharpness and clarity to the sharp parts while the overall image actually has a slightly reduced level in clarity and sharpness from normal Lightroom default levels. Contrast is increased in the whole image. Colours more or less straight out of camera. So it might seem that my 58 is sharper than it actually is, i see other images that make me think my copy is not particularly sharp.
The bokeh is sometimes really amazing, making me shoot wide open most of the time... In the image above i like the background in the left part a lot while the right part is rather busy, and I think an alternative take with the lens stopped down to around 2.0 might have been even better.
(Written by twoeye, messed things up a bit with my home computer where I have an old account that I never used on the forum, but still seem to be logged in.)

I know its a bit odd but has anyone every compared the rokkor 58 1.2 to the contax zeiss 50 1.4? I own both and thinking about downsizing my kit.
i'm sure there are a number of people here who have owned both. each is obviously better than the other in a number of different categories but i doubt there is much difference in resolution across the frame at f/8 on a FF camera. i would decide what kind of pictures you want to take with the lens before you decide which is better for you.

I wouldn't sell either unless I don't have room to keep both or I needed the money,
But if I had to choose between the two, I'd keep the Rok simply because I enjoy using it more.

Somehow over the last year I've ended up with many lenses thanks to the wonderful recommendations of the alt board. I just was curious if there was overlap that I could sell it and use it toward something else or hold onto to the money.
