This is pretty interesting. Too bad there isn't some way to mount the TC backwards between the lens and body....would probably give a similar effect?...but you'd lose all metering, etc, if you could even figure out a stable way of mounting it.
I'd rather have an add on lens for this anyway. I tend to leave my MPE-65 permanently attached to a camera body to help stop dust problems. Still haven't cleaned my 5Dmk2's sensor after a year of use with the MPE-65.

Brian all looks good, mine should be here anytime , I think the results shows promise . Nice find . Thanks for taking the time to extrapolate all you could for this combo . Another fine tool for the macro crowed.
Reverse it as well and it becomes a 65mm? i think lens with fixed focus. Don't have any samples but i tried it once before.
I just wish there was a 0.5x-4x solution out there that would be perfect.
I might actually get one of those ludicrous looking photography vest holder things that you can strap a camera onto though just to have a butterfly/dragon lens handy at all times although with my current weight of the mp-e and 5d2 with grip that'd be pretty crazy too.
SL - Yes agree- think the mag range is better on a FF camera but still tend to take my Tamron 90 on my rare field trips rather than my MPE-65 rig. But will try the MPE-65 with this TC next time I go.

Yes this is a very specialized lens canon is the only one that makes anything like it. your focus distance is from around 1 inch to 4 inches thats it . The lens is for shots from 1 time life size to 5X
Have any of you guys used this one? http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/Minolta-AF-3x-1x--1.7-2.8-Macro_lens199.html
I think it's somewhat similar to the MP-E but has AF (more or less) and only goes to 3x. Unfortunately discontinued.
