Hi guys. I haven't been on the boards much lately, but am trying to keep up with what everyone is doing. I just returned from New Orleans for my birthday, and have had so many sessions to shoot lately, that I cannot catch up on editing. I will start posting some shots from those soon, but just have a few snaps to share from Louisiana.
Katie - really nice images love the dynamic composition of the first one in particular
Gary - that dog image should be on a postcard very funny
Brian - the rendering of the lens is beautiful
muc_marlin - outstanding landscape
uhoh7 - how much longer does the Ski season last up there? I am impressed!
Got a great deal on a Leica Elmarit 28/2.8 ASPH - this lens is AMAZING almost no distortion and super sharp and contrasty at f4 and above
Lausanne, Switzerland. I always thought that 'kitch' was reserved to art and that the real world could never be tacky in itself.. well, Lausanne made me rethink that. The lake and the mountains are already over the top and then you get a swan floating by... As I generally prefer to do some form of minimalist photography focusing on simple shapes, textures etc, it was quite a challenging place to shoot. In the end I just gave up and embraced it
Luka, not sure you are available answer question this time
anyway, here are few question about your process.
Do you still work on LAB mode in PS in above? Or just work in LR? Are you still using multi-step sharpening output? Is there a recipe or image by image tweaking?
Nico - cool set, as always. I really need to visit London again! It's been over 10 years...
Rocky - great tones and working with what you've got.
Luka - excellent! Don't forget, there's a whole other area of Lausanne up the side of the hill.
Leonas - very interesting location!
Made a quick stop in Port Dalhousie on the way home yesterday...
M240 & 50 Lux ASPH (all around f/5.6), except second with 90 Summarit.
Not exactly beach weather... at least not yesterday. And still waiting for the trees to bud.

Yeah, the old town on the hill is nice. On a really ridiculously scale when you consider the town has no more than 130,000 inhabitants. I didn't take many photos there though as I had to be social... I do however remember your excellent Lausanne series of photos...

My one tip is to not let your wife go shopping whilst in Lausanne!
Well, too late for that I'm afraid

Michael, I'm still using the same old scripts in PS. On occasion I do some manual sharpening (with the regular sharpening tool using my mouse). There are typically three scenarios where I might use manual sharpening: when I want to bring out textures, edges or clouds.
If we take a photo like this:
I've done the following:
(LR) White balance adjustment
(LR) Basic settings (contrast/exposure/nd filter)
(PS) Removed dust spots (my sensor was dirty)
(PS) Used a resize script to get it to the target size:
(PS) Used the sharpening tool (~20% strength) on the clouds
(PS) Added a frame and saved for web
As for LAB mode, I use it on occasion to increase color separation or to increase contrast without affecting saturation/vibrance. In the swan picture I used LAB mode to increase contrast on the L channel only. When I did it in RGB the colors were too intense.
Gary, slowly warming up... though the 5 minutes at the Lake Ontario shoreline was very blustery. Had to pull up the hood and zip up the jacket all the way.
Luka - I wish I had more time to explore Lausanne. Hope you had/have a good time there.
Allen - I'll take a stab at it - my suspicion is it's a halo due to clarity 'pollution.'
A few more from Port Dalhousie...
The above were M240 & 50 Lux ASPH.

Luka mentioned his dirty sensor... Shooting with the M240 now for a couple months and it really seems to be a dust magnet. Not just little specks but 'massive' fibers too...
