I have started a thread already, but figured I'd post here as well since all the Leica shooters are here.
Does anyone know where in the Toronto area I can rent a Leica M9 and a lens for a day?
I'm trying to convince my wife to allow me to sell our 5D MKIII and 1Ds MKII to buy a used Leica M9 and a lens or two. I know this won't be possible until I can get an M9 for her to try out with a nice Cron or Lux lens so she can see what the Leica fuss is all about. If anyone knows, please let me know...

I see that rshafflers's images from M9 were far sharper than from m240,and now know,MAYBE, why some/many peoples returned back to M9 fromm240.maybe a good idea m9 with wide lens and A7r with tele...??
Well, not necessarily. For the last page or two, I turned off the sharpening option in the software I use for downsizing images because I felt the subject content - tree branches, etc. - was looking very crunchy when sharpening was applied.
At full resolution I believe the M240 files have somewhat better fine detail rendering because there seems to be less appearance of false detail, or aliasing. But the consequence is that the lack of aliasing gives the impression of lower sharpness.
I think the CV Lanthar is all anyone needs in a 90, especially for travel. Focus is so crazy hard at 2.8 that you can't count on it. DOF is so tight that even moving the patch of the FP is risky. The Sony A7s really are much better for this sort of thing. So f/3.5 is fine really.
But the CV is a delight on the camera. Legend has it that of all the CVs it is second only to the 50/3.5 in sharpness, and that is considered by quite a few to be the sharpest 50 ever made by anyone. Here you can see that lens: http://cameraquest.com/voig101.htm
I love this video showing the making of the lenses:
Now, All that said I may keep the Summarit anyway. (I will certainly keep the lanthar) Here it is on the A7
The 90 FL is tougher than 35 or 28 or 18, for sure. But you can get some real distinctive shots--once in a while
@ Katie Wonderful shots again!
I'm really almost never cold, in fact the problem is that we are often too hot. No kidding. Much panting, especially when the skiing is good.
Just to give you an update, I received my M9 back from repair today, but it's already sold. The buyer is very excited to get his first Leica so he will pick it up tomorrow without even owning a lens to use it on
I am keeping my ZM glass, especially that prices seem down and not much interest in them. I am sure I will get the M 240 eventually, when I get bored of the Sony, but until then, I will keep on voting with my likes on the wonderful images in this thread
Edward, sad to see you left, will meet you at A7 thread
Thank you again for nice comments and likes.
Charles, Another nice beach shot!
Manoj, Always enjoy different perspective photo. Very interesting. M9’s color seems very suit India’s color. A wonderful country for photography, hope one day I can be there.
Katie, Nice color and film look. Especially #1 and the horse shot. Looks great.
Ryan, very novel set up
Joakim, perfect timing! Both!
Leonasj great color!
Charlie, thanks again for the info. VC90 will be my top list if I decide get back 90mm for M. though f3.5 I liked 90Elmarit pretty well, but not happy with slow speed and focusing error.
Ron, I may fail to spot which is M9 or M240 from your images in blind test, though I can’t say the same thing with others from internet Agree it or not, majority photographers will be affected on camera manufacture with different sensor profile, especially under all different light condition and ISO performance. But I agree sharpness shouldn’t be the difference between M240 and M9. Color profile certainly will be for people can’t calibrate/alter their profile well. On the other hand, M9 is never famous for color fidelity I don't see a good reason just match that unless some just love its look.
More from Suzhou, it is the first time my son have a umbrella, he didn’t have chance here given good weather and car here and there…..He certainly enjoy it and refuse any help from his mom or grandparents, As for me, I can’t help anyway with M9 in hand
50lux WO, I might missed focus or shutter speed is not high enough at 1/125s for both of us moving.
Edward - we will miss your contibutions. However, I look forward to seeing you back here in three months....
Michael - nice set! First two are superb. Love the color treatement....
Leon - lovely wide angle work. Love the sky in the second.
Joakim - perfect mono shots. Great job.
Ryan - I find the flare interesting, too.
Edward - sorry to see you leave us, but I know you will be back. Sony can't keep you from a Leica, there's no way.
Uhoh - love the "girls dressed up"
Zhangyue - your son is adorable! Lovely work.
Still working on my color. Got VSCO 4 slide pack and played with a few shots from last night. I am going to have to go back when this large bull Longhorn isn't so close to the fence line. He wouldn't back up for me; and I wasn't willing to make him (with my son around - it might freak him out). Wanting sunset with him and the oil well in the background. Have two people requesting wall art of this exact setup... Here's my starting point. Played a bit with processing, so don't hate me. It might be a bit heave handed, but I didn't get the setup I wanted.
A couple of X1 shots from one of my favorite cities in the world:
I spent a week in Houston on business and followed up with a week of vacation in New York, with my wife. As has been the case a bunch of times before, I opted for bringing along the X1 rather than the full M9 kit. Although by no means a high performance camera by today's standards, the X1 still manages to impress me fairly often. Among other things if you plan on taking pictures of trees, this is the camera to use. Can't put my finger on it but there's something about the rendering... Another one from central park:
Michael, both shots of your son are great and I like what you did with the colors there.
Katie, that's Texas style bulls alrigtht! Nice photos.
Luka, I agree about the X1 and trees but my favorite is #5

Thank you Gary, Zhangyue, Joakim, Katie for the very kind words.
I might be back here sooner than expected
Ed, hope you will be back here soon. I always enjoy your images as I said before. But your images using M9 and Zeiss ZM lenses are just special. All the best!
