Gary, you are like a nomad with the Leica, always by your side, snow and mountains one week, beautiful plains and seemingly warmer weather another week :-). That 180 shot is superb!
Phil - I'll give you another week or so to think about the trade. Yes, the 180R was on the M240. It is actually a really nice combo for a longer lens solution. It is a little heavy but works real well with the EVF…. Pretty solid performing lens at all apertures. That thing on my sons head is his hat. He likes to goof around on hikes in such ways. This time he flipped it inside out and squashed it….. Kinda looks like a mini turban or something.
Joe - thanks for the comment! I am actually finally getting around to sifting through some pics from summer vacation. I may try that shot in B&W which could work out nice.
Really love the shot with that 180 Gary! We need more pics from that beauty. Here's my M8 and after a quick play with it I'm really enjoying the little differences compared to the newer M. I can't wait to use it more when I get some free time.
Joakim - love that second shot as well. Great capture! Curious to know if you were waiting out front for someone to walk out or was it just as you were walking by? I'm always interested in others street techniques….
Thanks for the comments Phil and Gary. Both photos were talked while walking by, I try to use both approaches but right now it is a little to cold to stand still for to long in Stockholm
I sent the R back for a plain 7 in early dec. I do use the A7, and like it very much. For me it handles better, EVF I really like, you see what you get etc, but there is some sort of goo on the sensor which prevents it from touching the image quality of the M9
The Canon LTM 50/1.4 is an example. I shot that lens on both sonys and it was OK, but showed smearing on the edges wide open and was in general pretty flat.
On the M9 it just seems flat excellent. 1955 on fire!
In keeping with my born again leicafeeliya, today in the mail arrived a barton1972 braided strap...oh yeah.
Great shots everyone, as I have been watching, and remiss in not commenting but using the like button of course!!!
Charlie, congrats!!! Great to see you here
No shots to post, as I have been still getting used of the A7r. So far the A7r and FE 55 are a killer combo, as is the FE 35. A lot to optimize and learn in PP'ing yet, but I really like the increased DR and colors, but the supposed higher ISO is somewhat negated by the noise structure. I actually prefer the noise at 6400 ISO combined with Nik Dfine 2.0 from the M240. For me, it is not M240 or just A7r, but having both really augments the strengths and weakness of each the M240 and A7r. More importantly my fiancee loves the A7r and FE 35 and it is here to stay
I also have to get off my butt and get back to processing a massive image backlog, with lots of M9 images therein... But instead of processing a job today, I tackled the 24-lens a7R vs. M9 shootout I did about a month ago, but sat on after kind of being phased out by the results from the a7R.
In case anyone is still interested, I've posted it to my site.
Infinity is certainly only one consideration and many of the lenses that didn't look so hot likely will be OK for other types of photography. But for me, it's an aspect of what I photograph and I don't see a point in starting into another camera line that will not satisfactorily address a significant portion of my work.
Bottom line for me is I'm going to sit out for at least this round and let the system fill out with more lenses and reevaluate it when the 9 series body is released (speculation on my part, but it would seem to be inevitable). My conclusion for now is that my interest in it will definitely will be as a native lens system. I'm not really interested in adapting vintage SLR glass, other than maybe certain Leica R lenses , but that's a road I don't really want to go down right now for $$$$ reasons.
Awhile back I started posting some images from an October afternoon in Washington DC...
First and last two with 28 Cron
Second with 21 SEM
Third with 50 Lux ASPH
Charlie, I also really like the Canon 50/1.4 LTM on the M9 and included it in the a7R-M9 shootout (though did't find the difference to be that big). Thanks also for the explanation about your transition to being a dual-system shooter.
Good job Phil, particularly the B&Ws.
Gary, nice combination of lines and shadows - love that lens too!
Joakim - the second one is a great find!
Rocky - that's one clean M8!
Rocky, sweet looking M8
Joskim, really nice street shots, #2 is superb with the framing and tonality.
Phil, excellent street set with the Lunar Celebrations. Colors are really nice as well. Back to M9?
Gary, excellent B&W set with the trees and bench, #2 is my favorite, nice composition with the shadows.
Charlie, more excellent set from you. Looks like you are really enjoying your M9 with these older lenses.
Ron, excellemt set. Was wondering what has happened to your posts lately, though maybe you have defected to Sony Looking forward to more of you pics and thanks for the review!
