I have the 1.4x and it is possible to still kind of see the 50mm frame lines. IMO, it's a hassle if you're like me and shoot a lot of different lenses during a single outing, especially anything wider than 50mm. As was posted here a while ago, I think by Charles, the best solution for me was to find the correct diopter correction match for my eyesight. This was great when my RF was perfectly calibrated, but now it seems to be slowly drifting and I really have to focus by intuition, slightly shifting the RF convergence away from a perfect match....Show more →
Yes I was looking into getting one, but wasn't sure if the high price was worth it to get .15 more magnification over the 1.25, so far my eyes are fine with the 1.25, will see in a few yrs when my eyesight starts to degrade more

I bought the 1.4x on Monday as I thought it might help with the Sonnar 85. I think my focusing accuracy is exactly the same with and without. One important advantage though is that magnification gives a more natural view of shooting a telephoto lens, almost SLR like. Without it the 90mm frame is too small. However, I don't think I will ever use it for the 50 lens. I can barely see the frame lines.

I compared both and found that while the 1.25x allowed easier framing at 50mm, it didn't seem to be enough of a an improvement for focusing ease, compared to not using one. Granted, I bought the 1.4x primarily to use with 90mm. I guess it depends on what you're shooting too. A lot of my 90mm work is more landscape-like and usually stopped down, or near infinity, as a result, the magnifier was less useful than I thought it would be. For portraits I seem to prefer 50mm on the Leica. Maybe if I had a 75 Lux, I'd use it for that, but when I borrowed Andrew's, I never felt I had a really hard time focusing it because of the long focus throw. Some of the new, fast lenses with short focus throw are quite the PITA for nailing focus, it seems.

Phil & Joe,
This is actually an M9P-upgrade. I asked Leica Singapore to retain the black dial from my black M9 in the silver upgrade that i requested. I would have wanted to retain the black switch and shutter button but the told me that it was attached to the top plate and entails more work because of some electronic contacts.
Ron, the top left is a little blown, it's the nature of the fact I really had the light settings closer to the mid to lower frame of the camera. It's possible, a image expert could make it some better. But I'm not sure exactly what else to do with it, except maybe selectivly turn the brightness down on that area, I might could do that. The right at the trees will be a little darker, but maybe I went to far with it. thanks for your opinion on it.
this lighting is VERY challenging to meter with the limited sensor of the M9...100 points for you! you were able to capture quite a range here...did you have to pull up shadows in post?
That is 35cron V1. with Leica polarizer hood. The hood finish match the goggle and M9's skin finish. So it looks cool I used it a lot in China trip.
Both shots used manual exposure. I use manual a lot with M9 based on experience and sunny 16. Both face exposure rely on the light bounce from ground so I didn't do a lot shadow lifting. Even M9's sensor DR is not that great, it seems behave pretty good on shadow lifting if needed. so not blow highlight is still my priority with M9.

thanks..
yeah, I rely purely on manual metering on the M9, too...because its auto-exposure is somewhat retarded; it's next to unusable especially in this high-contrast lighting because with the M9 and its wonderfully-limited dynamic range, once the highlights are clipped in your histogram, it's pretty much gone.
Sorry, I've been bad with all text and no images lately. But have been enjoying the great work here and somewhat getting caught up in Joe's GAS, becoming a bit of an accomplice.
Ron, don't blame me! You got a superb deal last night! If only I saw that one first. IT wasn't even listed in the morning when I checked. Can't wait to see samples from your new acquisition.
Those hoods look cool but I kind of prefer the round ones, just for a more classic looking kit.
Today I payed my mint, black paint M9P which still has plenty time of its warranty left. I can't wait to get her! Since I am new to Leica and just familiar to the MP (just made a couple test shots with a rented M9) I am looking so much forward to shoot with those fantastic little lenses on my own digital M. Hopefully I am able to contribute in a couple of days some pics to this fantastic thread!
