Curious about the M9-M: ISOs multiplied by 4. I would expect by removing RGB, it would be multiplied by 3. Anyone know why the 4x sensitivity increase?
EDIT: ah... perhaps because in a typical Bayer filter it's 1/4 red, 1/4 blue and 1/2 green?
Joakim, another excellent shot with the 24Elmar.
Charles, another excellent set. Love the gentle rendering on the 2nd shot. In a B&W M-M mood?
Ron, I agree, probably wise to wait till Sept 2012. I'm just speculating and we know that the M10 will definitely be an improved camera over the M9, my only concern is the price. If we think the M9 is expensive, I won't be surprised if the M10 is even more expensive, and probably a little too expensive for me to consider. Otherwise looking at the path of what Leica did to the X2, keeping it evolutionary, including the dated LCD, the M10 might not be that much of a difference, probably a higher resolution and 1-2 stops better ISO sensor, and maybe adding some of the features of the Titanium M9?
Right now, the biggest need for me is better high ISO than what we have on the M9. I can make large prints with the M9 at lower ISOs and I don't think we really "need" more resolution? The M9 is still a remarkable camera considering its going to be 3 years old soon. As for the M10, live view would be an added benefit to draw new adopters but my needs are probably different from others. What I hope is that Leica would continue to produce the M9 after launching the M10, probably reducing the price so that many others who are interested in shooting a full frame digital rangefinder will get a chance to do so.
Lovely set Boris!
M10 - ahhh... am actually considering putting in a pre-ordre for a non-existent product. If only the online shops would accept my request.
I am thinking ahead to my next M purchases. I would like to go wide before I go long. I currently have an M8, 28 cron and 50 lux and love this trio. The wide lenses I am considering are the Leica 18mm, Leica 21 3.4 ASPH and the ZM 18mm. I am a huge fan of the Leica rendering wide open over Zeiss lenses, so I will generally always choose Leica lenses from 28mm and up. But at this wide focal length, the depth of field is so small, and I am not looking at the Leica 21 1.4. So really the wide open rendering style of Leica is not as apparant - therefore, perhaps I should consider the cheaper alternative in the ZM 18? Money being no object I think I would get the Leica 21 3.4 ASPH, as it shares the same e46 thread as my current lenses, the MTFs look pretty amazing, and from the few photos I have seen, this lens looks great.
Any thoughts? Should the Leica 18mm even be in the running? Is the ZM 18 the obvious choice if I'm generally at f/5.6 of f/8?
Ash, if you don't need 18, the Leica 21 3.4 is stunning.
I have the ZM 21/2.8 and find it good enough, especially if stopped down. Else the 21SEM is sharp from wide open, I've tried it and its really good. Only reason I didn't get the 21SEM was because I don't use the 21FL often enough but that 21SEM lens always tempts me.
Sorry, I don't have experience with the 18mm lenses, but Luka and others have posted some stunning shots with the ZM18 on this thread.
