Yeah, I was a bit disappointed as I saw that. With that big front lens I see trouble ahead.
Furthermore the hood could be better out of metal to give more protection.
The Samyang 14/2.8 is the newest of my many lenses that loses some of its color on the barrel, not a scratch but abrasion. In fact I am not sure if I have an other lens with such abrasion.
I do not use my lenses with velvet gloves on :-) I think I have put the lens with camera on something hard (stone?) and corrected the direction.
Not familiar with the ZoneV site, but according to Photozone.de: "The build quality is surprisingly high for such an affordable product. It is made of a tightly assembled combination of metal and good quality plastic parts."
Yes, for that type of lens an that pricing the build quality is high. But absolute it is not that high. I am happy with my copy of that lens, despite of the problems I have and the nor so good border IQ.
A used Tamron 14/2.8 cost more, and is not often to find. A used Canon 14/2.8 cost much more. So I am happy with the Samyang - but I want to tell that it is not comparable to the supposed build quality of the Canon (which I never had). Some people wrote that Canon now has to lower their prices, because of the strong competition of the Samyang. I donīt think so. I suppose the Canon EF 14/2.8 is better, and the Samyang has some flaws / quality problems.
I can live with the insight that I spend money for something not 100% perfect. That is mostly the case. But sometimes I have the feelings others canīt do that :-)

BIS with an UWA? I'm impressed. Very impressed. Lovely pic. A touch of fill-flash may have helped?
Happy shooting,
Yakim.
Thank u Yakim - appreciate that.
Yes flash would have greatly helped, but, for better or worse, i have acquired a habit of not using flash Once i put my flash on the 5d-ii it just becomes too bulky..
