btw... distortion can be corrected with ptlens from http://epaperpress.com/ptlens/index.html. the correction for this lens is already in the database and does a nice job with the complex distortion.
Goodness gracious me! The resolution is most impressive and CA seems to be practically absent.
The 2nd test image on the left reveals a soft left border though, which the resolution figures don't tell about. The centering probably isn't as good as the reviewer thinks. I don't see it in the other samples (maybe only a hint of it in one or two of them).
Looks like I might be sacrificing some unused lenses soon.
Although, if the 85/1.4 and 14/2.8 are an indication of what we can expect from the upcoming 35/1.4 (1.2, please!), I might just wait and spend my money there.
That's amazing performance for such a cheap lens. Definitely a must have.
You gotta wonder - if these guys (Samyang) can make a lens this good and for such a low price, why are Canon and Nikon charging so much for their lenses that are mass production. Just how much profit are these companies (Canon or Nikon) making off their lenses.
I'm looking forward to see a Samyang 14 thread here in the alt forum! This looks like a pretty difficult/tricky lens to use with the extreme distortion (volume anamorphosis) of elements in the foreground, especially at the side of the frame.
Distortion problems aside, I would like to see side by side comparisons of this lens after ptlens correction vs. the Nikon 14-24G at f5.6 or f8.
The center resolution results at photozone.de look too good as they are better than the ZE 21 and just slightly better than the ZE100 at f5.6. This seems suspect, and more of the usual photzone testing issues
Thanks.
I am tempted to get one...
I asked Adorama the same question regarding the lens (pro-optics), since they sell them cheaper than B and H (bower). No answer yet.
