I am on the board/director of an all-foster/volunteer humane association (and I am also a foster home for dogs/cats) here in Illinois.
This little guy is Homer, a "senior" mini Dacshund I did an intake on from a particularly bad animal control yesterday.
Nothing quite says joy to me like these guys when they get out and feel the brush of grass, the fresh air and just ... life ... after being in a stressful, high kill pound setting.
So hence, the joy of a good roll in the freshly mowed grass, freedom, rescue and hey, a shot at a second chance.
Ahhhhh poor doggie, hope he gets a forever home soon. I have a friend that has a puppy, then did a recue of a second older one. She just loves them. I hear stories everyday about them. They are such cute little dogs.
Just an update: This dog got a phenomenal home! His new couple is crazy about him (two updates already).
CSAE - I take literally thousands of photos of the rescue dogs and I'd say there is always that slight chance to look at the "roll in the grass" shots as well, dead dogs. I shot about 50+ of this little guy and I'm not sure if it's because he is old(er) or what, he sorta rolled slower than most dogs! So I totally hear your critique (and can totally appreciate it), but I was unable to get anything like you describe. Most dogs close their eyes and go into a kind of euphoric state and so it looks kinda like death. Other than rolling, he was a very serious little fellow (often the case after they've been traumatized and such). I was hoping the angle on his back signified life. A dead dog cannot hold a pose on his back like that. Also, his little legs were seriously the shortest I've seen and his back long as per the breed. He never jumped ... at all!
Anyway, thanks for the comments so much. I really appreciate your time.
