For those of you who've attended a USGA/PGA tournament Practice Round, I have a few questions for you so I'm prepared for the US Open @ Pebble Beach in two weeks (i.e. so I don't get turned away at the gate and end up having to take the shuttle bus back to my car to put things away).
Per the 2010 US Open Spectator Information Guide, it states:
"No Cameras and/or Camcorders
(other than Monday through Wednesday for personal, non-commercial
photographic use only and without their cases)"
In particular... I'm concerned with the "... without their cases" phrase. Does this mean I have to carry the camera out of the bag? What about my other lenses and accessories? Am I allowed to carry some sort of case for my lenses? (I only plan to bring a 300/4L IS, 17-40, and maybe the fisheye)

At the Memorial Tournament (which is the only place I've shot), they've been somewhat flexible with cases. I.e, most of the time you can carry a second or third lens in it's own dedicated case. Camera bags are not allowed, however. How strict they are will depend on each venue. This week, I carried my 1Ds II with 300/2.8 on a monopod, and I packed my E-P1 with 20/1.7 and 40/1.4 in a little holster case, which they allowed, which gave me the length for most shots, and an option for wider stuff. Several people (and me last year) carried two bodies with one wide and one long lens.

Jman,
Thanks for that info... I guess that's what I'll have to do.. just carry the lenses in holster lens cases and hope the US Open staff will be okay with it. Of course, it would be better just to carry two bodies but I'm not going to push my luck.

You should be fine with two bodies. Pretty much whatever you can carry you can bring. There are a LOT of serious photographers at the practice rounds...you'll see everything from point and shoots to people carrying multiple bodies with 400/2.8's.

I think I am going to try dual bodies, one lens each.
