Lens flair aside, perhaps it should be 4x the size, with a hole cut for the lens? That you'd be able to shoot without anyone being able to see your face!

Great for blinding the people behind you. I love the faked lens flare.

I've been getting sore arms from using the 24 inch umbrella on my flash. Plus, my pictures are fuzzy looking from shooting through the umbrella. Not to mention the fact that I have nearly put out an eye from the stem of the umbrella being so long.

On the serious side, this is about 25 square inches of light source, compared to 1 square inch (sizes approximate) from the bare flash. However, as the distance from the subject increases, the relative size decreases. At some point bouncing off the ceiling becomes more effective.

I saw one of those in a Mimosa. It was in pink, though.

For less than 7 Euros it looks a lot better than many other more expensive diffusers available, and the samples shown using it - look far better than the results without.

If the mount is sturdy enough it could be used to hang your speelight from other regular umbrellas too. Worth the cost for this alone.

The velcro I buy doesn't have a strap attached and a pocket for an umbrella shaft.. in fact it's just cost me more thinking about it.

How about this alternative... much cheaper than the 7 Euros

That's clever velcro - it has some plastic stuck to it!

I see a use for this in a difficult-to-light situation type scenario sort of thing. It`s probably got parachutic (?) qualities. Attached to a speedlight, it could be thrown a fair distance and then the flash triggered remotely when appropriate, thus rendering the subject perfectly exposed from on high. It may also double as a propaganda device, it could be pre-loaded with business cards which would be strewn around when the flash fired.

I think I have to go and lie down now.

I've heard of this cocktail umbrella for a while now and it's not a very brilliant idea, in my opinion. What's the difference between this and all the other flash diffusers out there besides the laughs you'll get with this one?

I ordered one a few days ago. It's bigger than a Lumiquest Softbox III, and better in the case of fitting in a small lightstand bag.

edit: and no, I wouldn't dream of using it on camera.

Something, something, something... glass houses. Something, something... rocks.

More on topic, I think that if anything, it's better than the flash helmet. That thing just hurt your neck.
