Have you experimented with a slightly brighter processing?
I like it as is, but it "feels" a little dark on my (uncalibrated) monitor.
Tim
I think so too.. Uncalibrated here as well. I tried auto-tone in PS, but i got way too bright then, Removing the B/W, and putting it up in color instead. I'm actually thinking of buying a good monitor, instead of just keep buying monstrously expensive lenses and stuff. I think i'll look more into those monitors that have built-in calibration. NEC and Eizo, i think. Probably worth it!
I tried with a little exposure comp on the first one. Will definately get a calibrated monitor.. I'll look for a suitable one now. 'Reasonably' good, without being too expensive. Thx for the input, trumpet!
I think it's mostly an issue of preference now. My monitor may yield a little
darker image than it should, but it's fairly close to the significant majority of
Apple monitors I see at the stores. I know that is a poor substitute for real
monitor calibration.
I like the images as is; I was just thinking how they'd look a little "hotter" on
the flesh tones.
I really like the color performance of the Leica glass.
The reason I sold my Cron R 50/2 was that I was getting results I liked
as well or better on landscape and mid distance work with my C/Y Zeiss 50/1.7
and so I thought I'd take the money instead. Still liked that glass, though.
With the high pricing on R lenses lately, I thought someone might benefit from the exceptional deals at Bergen County Camera. They've got an E55 Elmarit 90 for $400 and a Summicron 90 3-Cam (two stage hood) for $600. For you 100 mac owners, they've got the Elpro for $300. Don't let the below market price on the Elpro scare you. I paid less than that for the 2x APO I bought from them, and it was perfect. If you have questions about any of them, hit up Paul. Nice guy and knowledgable.

trumpet, are you talking about Peter's two portraits on this page? They look fine to me. My monitor was calibrated yesterday with a Color Munki.
Carsten,
Looking at them again, that first one [color, now] is close to perfect.
I did a little playing around with them and found that Peter has it bright
enough that he is nearing max on the red channel, which is often how I
know when a Caucasian portrait is processed right. [That's just my approach.]
So I guess my monitor is not far off from accurate, at least as I perceive things.
tc, I have a meticulously calibrated P221W and this dude looks like he got a bit of sun on that northern European skin early in the northern warm season. WB looks right, witness the background, sky, whites on shirt, etc.
Exposure wise, these look fine. Leica lenses do lovely things with skin tones, seeming to flatten tonal response even in challenging light - one reason people love them.
Peter, highly recommend the P221 NEC and try to get hold of Spectraview II for it. Or pay more for the higher end NECs, Eizos are bling for anyone but industry people IMO.
Thx for the tip! I'll definately look into it. I have some pretty expensive camera gear, but basically the cheapest monitor i could find. This doesn't make much sense, i realize. So even if it is always more tempting to buy even more lenses, i should probably get a decent monitor instead.
Philip, I think maybe we both missed the pre-correction darker version. Both the current ones look fine, even if the first one has a slight reddish tinge to the skin.

Changed it again! Lol. I think i've learned a lot from your helpful tips and comments guys, thx!

Cheers mate!
I was lucky to find one a little beaten up for an affordable price. Mint ones are just out of reach..
But most importantly the optics are intact.
