Yeah, that was a lot of words that probably don't mean much to those not shooting Sony. Basically, it means I can stop worrying about how to convert the lens side of the Leica 1.4x to Alpha.
And it also means that, if you ever decide to put the 280/4 back on the market, I'd be very interested.

^^ sweet!
also, any idea how the 250/4 compare to the 350/4.8 in size and performance? i didn't know you had the 250?

Yeah, KEH had an EX+ copy for a price that I couldn't pass up, but it's a recent acquisition. CA and color are about the same. The bare lens wide open is slightly sharper than the 350. With the 1.4x on there (making it an effective 350) it's about the same, but it's still shorter and lighter. Same excellent tripod mount, IIRC. It'll be coming to CA with me, so you'll get a chance to see for yourself.

i keep thinking i want to side grade my 350 to two separate lenses – a smaller f/4 and something either longer or f/2.8. i'd love the smaller f/4 to be the 280, but i don't shoot telephoto often enough these days to justify that price. on the other hand i really don't want to lose the leica's color.

) okay, i think it will be soon... I bought and 180/2.8apo and seems that this is better for me by weight and sizes. But i want to shot with 280 for my full opinion about this lens, maybe for future.
Few shots from this (foggy) morning to help Worldinlens to contribute to this thread
Worldinlens, I really enjoy your images of snow. Something that I really miss here.
Nice images, Both of you! 28R is a great lens. and it happens no other manufacture have 28mm can compete with this Leica, other than themselves M offer.
There are not lot activity on this thread. Wish more people can chime in when spring comes
Im quite positive that C/Y 28mm f2 or ZF can compete with Leica. And latest Voigtlaender 28mm f2.8 seems quite promising too, it will just lack those colors (and bit of 3D now and then).
Other than that, yea field of good 28mm is quite empty.. bit too much for my liking.
I had high hopes for this lens, but after seeing Diglloyd's comparison against Nikon 28/1.8 G and Nikon 28/2 AIS I decided to purchase Elmarit-R 28.
Seems that Elmarit-R 28 is more about 'geometrical perfection', especially very sharp corners, rather than 3D/pop or colour. However, the Leica-R 28 appears to handle it all quite well.
It would be interesting to see Elmarit-R 28 against the two Zeiss lenses you mentioned (Diglloyd posted such comparison, but I don't have a Zeiss subscription)

I think in this case of R28 no any doubt that this is one of the best 28. And in fairness it should be noted that the price for this lens now is absolutely consistent with its optical quality. What can't be said about many other R-lenses, where pricing starts from the rarity of the lens, the brand-masturbation and just myths in some cases.

Thanks, but very cold now! 20-30 minutes and already want to go home

Alex, nice snow pics, we also need here some.
Which Leica R lens are you refering to in your above statement?
I am curious to know?
