I would not mind, the Leica extenders are better than Nikon ones, and there are plenty on the market, so no loss. They can be used for any manual lens - hmm, if they can get the data about aperture to the camera. Will this be possible - like an AI lens?

The latest version of the extender, which allows shooting with manual lenses - old Nikon TC-201. Modern Nikon extenders are excellent, but they are incompatible with manual lenses. Neither constructive nor mechanical. So I have decided that the best possible candidate for Nikon-compatible manual lenses - Leica R APO 2x. It will be like shooting by any Leica-R lenses on Nikon F cameras, no aperture lever of course

Of course, both side. One side simple, another - difficult
But I believe that everything will be fine. I already bought the extender. When I get it I'll start an experimental work with design and modification
Hmm. So my only question left is how to get you to switch to Sony so you'll do this for Alpha mounts.
Aren't you tired of trimming all those shrouds for mirror clearance? And all those clean high ISO shots... really, isn't that just a waste of good fast glass? And Nikons are basically just high-end wrappers for Sony sensors anyway.
Give me time. I'll come up with other, more compelling arguments.
But so far for me the best universal camera remained D700, corner of my eye while watching the A99 SONY has very good color resolution, while everything else is questionable.
So all my lenses focused on Nikon mount. That's what I wonder, I try make friends with the this mount too.
If serious about apo2x for Sony, the Sony and Leica has large difference in working distances. 44.5 vs 47.
I think this apo-2x extender for Sony or will be not working with some lenses after modification or it has no infinity. After full disassembling and measurements apo2x i can tell more. This question more difficult than nikon-modification.

Beautiful shots as always, Douglas. What do you think about the forthcoming M and shooting R lenses on it?
What I like: it's full-frame, any R lens can be used without modification, and I could use a huge variety of other-brand lenses as backups or for occasional needs where I couldn't justify the expense of a Leica lens. The focus peaking is probably a very positive factor because it works over the entire image area but I'll have to see how it performs in my typical working conditions.
The big unknown: I'll have to see what the add-on viewfinder is like. Lag, ability to focus quickly and accurately, and vulnerability to loss or damage are my biggest concerns. I have a hard time imagining the camera's image quality would be anything less than excellent but testing before spending money wouldn't hurt. I'd probably add one of the grips too.

Not if I want to use my APO extenders.
Might be possible to replace mount of camera itself, not lens.. Not sure about it. But its possible for Nikon mount, so maybe Leica R too? "Worldinlens" should know.
Sure, he knows. He sells Nikon mounts for Sony cameras I guess the A99 needs to be examined first though, and judging from early comments, it may or may not be worth it.

Leica R on Sony A impossible by simple way, very large diameter of Leica-R mount. Only the full replace of mount, but it's very-very difficult. Because the design of the rear landing side of SONY-A mount is made through complete ass in the third degree.

Heh not sure how I should understand that last part.
So not really possible. Well, Leica "M" or wait for FF mirrorless then.. Or some older Canon FF model.
I don't know very well math English . Perhaps come Carsten to help us and he will be able to correct my assessment regarding A-mount design of Sony Corporation
