p.4 #1 · Issue with Einsteins

Can you even use ttl with another strobe in the mix? Won't the ttl set your flash, then the other strobe would just blow everything out?

If you use it to push ambient up a little, it's ok.
You have to hook the manual flashes to the PC sync output of the flash or body and set FEC appropriately on the TTL flashes.

jojo: get a long sync cord. Move the PW receiver away from the Einstein (you probably have it within 2'?)

We are working directly with PW to solve this issue ASAP.

I now have it approximately 3feet away from the Einstein now. It seem to work ok when the PW is in a 6-8 foot zone around it. My problem is that I have renters that come in and use primes and stand even further than that. I really dont want to put out my CC out for rent as I really dont want to give whole instructions on how to use them. I will have renters who will go into menues and mess around. Thats why I want simple like the PW even then I still get people messing them up. Im going to have to give more instruction as it is as these lights are a bit more complicated then the Turn the knob Hensels Integras that they replaced. So the more simple the better. C'mon I have renters that dont know what manual mode is even. oh well gotta start somewhere right,

For renters who don't know what manual is, AB/WLs might have been simpler w/ the sliders
I'd guess if you put the PW 6' away (bottom of lightstand?) from the Einstein, it'd work a lot better...
Or use cheapo fleabay wireless triggers like the RF602 which would be even better for renters since they can trash the $30 units all they want...

As a PW user and Einstein early adopter, I would hope that the "fix" for this problem will be implemented in a way that allows it to be retrofitted to lights already in the field. The Cyber Commander system is wonderful but there are still times when the PW is the right tool for the job.

Or regular cybersyncs? Any issue with those?

The problem appears to be related to the distance between the receiver connected to the Einstein (or Canon 580 EXII ) as you move the receiver further away from the flash the problem with interference starts clearing up.

No issue with cybersync or CSXCV, or with PW on AB/WL/Zeus. The only issue is with Einstein/PW combination. We are collaborating with PW to resolve the issue. It is the same issue as PW/580EXII and the workaround is a longer distance between the PW receiver and the Einstein or 580EXII.

As soon as we have the issue and identified we will certainly retrofit any Einsteins affected.

Paul I am pretty sure the PW/580ex2 issue is only with the newer PW Flex TT5 units...I use my PW Plus 2s all the time with 580ex2 with absolutely no problem.

So, I'm not sure this is the exact same issue.

Just some food for thought as you are working through the issues...btw, I think it is fantastic that you are looking into a solution.

Absolute constant color over 9f stops of variability, extremely short available flash durations, global plug and play, 250W modeling lamp with frosted Pyrex dome, all digital remote and local control, 1/10f accuracy and repeatability for both flash and modeling, faster recycle, improved accessory mount, display of all parameters including flash duration and color . . . this is only part of the list.

Same result, different specifics. Einstein with PW noise sniffer produces identical EMI and PW results to my Mac Intel Desktop. We're on it. Instead of placing blame we are seeking solutions.

Cool...Like I said I think it is terrific you've taken ownership of the problem regardless of who is at fault...that speaks volume and I can start understanding why everyone goes on an on about the wonderful Paul Buff customer service!

I received my Einstein on Monday and immediately tested out the performance with my PW2's. I have no problems whatsoever triggering the Einstein. The PW2 is mounted about 10" below the strobe, strapped to the lightstand with the antenna vertical.

How far are you away w/ your TX?
Apparently, the noise kills the range of triggering (same as the TT issue), so w/o the distance you tested your shooting from, that's probably premature...

Has anyone tested the CE PW's (Europe/Asia 433Mhz) to see if the issue is the same?

We are less, but still substantially affected by the Canon flash EMI issues.

PS Paul had done a great thing in promising to retro-fit a future production fix to all currently sold Einsteins. This means we can buy with confidence.
