If your talking about a zoom lens, the Nikkor 1200-1700mm is an impressive beast.
While all of these are very impressive...when will you all learn that the 5200mm lens Canon made is the king of fixed aperture lenses? I'm talking about actual camera lenses... not telescopes. I'm not putting up any links, it's been posted a million times.
While the 750-3800mm that cableaddict linked to is impressive, I think I'd have to agree with arctic and opt for the zeiss with a 2x.

Has anyone played the nickname game with this lens yet? You know, Bigma, Sigmonster, etc... SURELY the nickname for this one needs to include a reference to personal injury.
