That Lisy78 could sing so well? Alessandro and I shot a wedding in Asheville, NC yesterday and upon getting to the reception venue, there was a musical trio warming up while guests were arriving. They started playing "O solo mio" and being the italian he is... Alessandro starts singing along with the tune... and mighty well I might add! The evening continues on and they play the song again and one of the players comes up to us and asks Alessandro if he'd like to sing into the mic. He was a bit hesitant so I had to give him a nudge. He starts belting out this tune and absolutely KILLED it!! At the end of the evening we were saying our goodbyes and I asked if anyone noticed his singing. They didn't realize it was him giving an impromptu performance and were blown away because they and had just assumed it was one of the professionals!...singers, that is
Just know that if you work with him, you have a multi-talented individual on board! Had a GREAT time working with him. We worked hard but had lots of fun too. Great guy!
Pics are coming! My eyeballs are fluttering in their sockets from lack of sleep... I'm going to bed.
Well to answer the thread subject's question... my baby daughter knew... considering that she's forced to listen to me sing in the shower on a fairly constant basis :P
Oh yeah... and my wife... and an unfortunate co-worker whom I was sharing a room with at a convention, who had the misfortune of coming back to the room while I was showering and thinking I was alone in the room.
So yeah, I guess Saturday was definitely a first... and now I'm trying to figure out how to fit this into one of my packages
Anyway... notes from the weekend in Asheville:
1. Patrick is an awesome dude. We had a fantastic time and it'll be fun to work together again. Lots of cool shop talk too. Those of you who failed to respond to his cry for help missed out on working with a great guy and a great wedding
2. Asheville is a freggin' photographer's paradise. Damn place looks like it was put together by Tony Hoffer just for shooting engagement sessions. I hate it when I hear some of you punks make comments like "I don't scout for an engagement session, i just look around and find interesting locations wherever I am." ... well if I lived in Asheville or a place like it, I too would just charge the batteries and wake up 5 minutes before the session
3. Asheville may indeed be home to the best Italian-Style pizza this side of the pond. I certainly haven't had better on American soil.
4. When Patrick says "the church is so-so" what that means is "the church kicks the a$$ of about 99% of churches in the country." I presume that if he says "The church is pretty cool" that means you're shooting at Notre Dame
5. The Venue for the reception was The Venue. That's what it's called . Great place by the way, they clearly set out to deserve the name when they named it that.
6. The couple was awesomeness... attractive, fun, nice, kind... oh and get this... they moved to Alaska yesterday, day after the wedding... for a short term contract job. And they're driving up in a truck and sleeping in the bed of the truck. I am SOOOO freggin' Jealous.
7. It sux when the church seriously limits your ability to move. Then again I think they probably would say that it sux when inconsiderate photographers stand in front of the parents to "get the kiss" robbing them of one of the special moments in their lives.
8. I think something happened to my 35L ... it let me down a few times during the ceremony and when I tested it later at The Venue it was still misbehaving.
9. My 1D3 did the same ... sux when you gotta put that away and have the 5D be flanked by the 40D instead.
10. 8 and 9 spell: "Backups for the win"
11. The wedding featured the most advanced (and considerate) Cousin Bob I'd ever seen. Canon 40D with grip, Povertywizard transmitter on the hot-shoe and two (yes TWO) VALS. I found out there were two when, satisfied by the fact that he was being VERY respectful of my moving around, clearly making an effort to get out of my way I suggested he take a couple of shots by sending his VALS (I had only seen one) on the other side of the dancing couple to get some rim-lit and possibly flared shots. He thanked me, laughed and said "look over there... I already have another one!" ...

Seriously...all these new cams with HD Video and we have nothing to show for it.
I know, I know... too bad I was shooting with a D3 and a D700 so I didn't have video capability and my I-phone was tucked in my bag in a back room so I was only able to grab a couple of quick shots. The trio was tucked back in a little corner out of the way so they were out of view of most everyone.
