How much if any delay should there be when using the D700's flash in commander mode to trigger the SB900 off camera. I find a nearly 1 second delay once the shutter release has been fully depressed. Do I have some settings wrong, or is that just the way it is? Thanks, Derek
Edit--I am an idiot, you think I would have noticed that the eye icon was displayed on the info panel. I don't know how I got the redeye setting on because I never use it, but that was the problem.
1 second is too long. Depending on your settings... There will be some delay if you have TTL set (as the preflash communicates to the camera and back to the flash to set exposure), but this is miniscule and should be almost imperceptible. If you have the flash setting to slow rear curtain then there will be some delay depending on shutter speed (as it is designed).
We need more info to help, and I suspect, you need to read the manual and go back to basics to work it through.

Thanks for your help. As you can see in my edited post I am an idiot.
