p.1 #1 · 5DII and LR (3 beta): too much red

I find my RAW files from the 5DII too reddish in LR (I'm using LR 3 beta). The reds are oversaturated IMO. The difference with DPP is very obvious.

I had the same problem with my 1D, but I could solve this by selecting 'camera neutral' as setting and tweaking the reds a bit.

The 5DII is more difficult however. If I choose 'camera neutral' the colors are tuned down too much, and more important, the exposure/brightness is lessened by .2 of a stop or so.

I find that 'Adobe standard' as setting comes closest to the testshots I take in my room (so I can compare the reds). Adobe standard is also the closest to DPP.

Before I start tweaking and adjusting myself, I wonder if anyone has some experience with this and maybe some useful tips
Thanks in advance.

There are numerous issues with newer cameras in the LR3 beta.

If you need processing that works reliably, it's time to break out LR2.

Random question, but can LR2 not read the custom picture profile you set on the 5D2?

I've always left my 5D2 on "Standard" but was playing around with these settings recently. When I set it to "Neutral," whenever LR loads the photo initially the colors look like the preview did on the 5D2 LCD, but then it continues to load ("Rendering Large Preview" or whatever it says) and then bam, the colors go all out of whack. It's like it loads the correct colors at first, then when it tries interpret the color profile it goes all out of whack.

If you are referring to the in-camera "Picture Styles" and you are shooting Raw files, then no, LR will not use them. Pretty much the only in-camera setting that LR will use is White Balance and that may not precisely match Canon's software either.

If you want Picture Styles to be respected, your alternatives are:
- Shoot Jpegs (this will "bake in" the Picture Style.
- Use Canon's DPP program for raw development. DPP will use the in-camera Picture Style as a starting point for raw development.

You can actually create your own "pseudo Picture Styles" in LR with presets. Read through the thread linked below and the linked web pages inside that thread and I think they will give you an idea.

Read through this recent thread about what is happening in LR and what you can do about it:

Hope that helps.

5d2 is just bad with all iterations of ACR... be interested to see your results with custom profiles.

Try -10 saturation of orange with the Adobe standard profile.

If you have an Xrite 24 patch ColorChecker, download either Adobe's free DNG Profile Editor software or Xrite's ColorChecker Passport software (also free but you have to give them your contact info when registering) and create basic 5500K and 3200K profiles. The process takes less than five minutes and the resulting profile can be applied to either DNG or camera maker proprietary raw files.
If you want or need to be really picky you can create these custom profiles for various lighting.

Thanks for all your replies.

Like I said I had already started trying several settings and I will now dive deeper into this. I'm not that picky regarding colors, but these reds are just too much off. I think if I'm going to try settings based on Adobe standard I can get very close.
