I have owned the Epson 3800 for several years, I actually was on a waiting list when they first came out...I have used it some but was never happy with the gloss differential and mainly used it just for 13x19 posters.
A couple of weeks ago the print head clogged and I have spent several hundred dollars buying ink carts and doing all the suggestions on the internet to get it unclogged and nothing worked. I called Epson and it is out of warranty of corse and they gave me a phone number to a company here in Colorado to take it in and get repaired, well they want $200.00 to even look at it and said if it was the print head that would be another $300.00 and plus print carts which all are almost all out again, so tack on another $350.00 and I'm looking at around $800.00 to $900.00 to get it fixed!!!
So Sunday I was at OfficeMax and seen the Epson 1400 sitting there on sale for $199.99 and I had a coupon for $15.00 so I said what the heck I'll try it. Well I'm very surprised with this guy, I have printed a bunch of 4x6, 5x7 and even several 13x19 posters and I think they look a lot better then the 3800 ever did and for $185.00 I think it was a heck of a deal,
I know time will tell but right now I'm very happy with the 1400 and the 3800 is in the closet for now...anyone want to buy a 3800 cheap ;^)
I seen the 1400 for 199 as well. I have $30.00 coupon and they will give you $50.00 to turn in an old printer. Almost a no brainer but I have been so busy I have not had the time to take the hour drive out to the store that has them
It is a great deal, cost less then 3-4 carts from the 3800 I have printed about 6 more posters since I posted this and I'm still very impressed, I use all Red River paper and their profiles.
I got out to the store today and picked it up! Hopefully I dont have the issues I have had with my past epson and canon (colors way off and very faded looking) Well see tomorrow when I get a space leaned of on the printer cart for it and get it hooked up
where are you guys buying your paper from? Everything I am finding is "packs of 20" for 22 bucks or so. over a buck a piece and only packs of 20?? Anybody know of cases of paper anywhere or am I stuck buying a bunch of the small packs?
Had mine less than a year and I like it a lot so far. Haven't printed anything 8x10 size yet as I am very SLOWLY trying to get everything calibrated so I get prints looking like what is on the screen.
Too bad they had to go the Claria inks instead of the ones the 1900 uses. Those are about $2-3 cheaper per color.

I really like the paper I get from Red River I use their Ultra Pro Satin 2.0 and the Arctic Polar Satin...and use their profiles for their paper...works great.
Still works like a champ...I really like it for doing all my action shot pictures. I have been buying my ink on ebay and have not had a clogging issue yet.
