I assume this is the first day of release. Got mine ordered. I use the books quite a bit and even used them for Wedding Albums. I have given users choices and they love the books.
Ya, you could always make your own album at a custom size and export a PDF in aperture 2.
Good to know - I'll have to give it a try!
I find that Aperture works very well along with InDesign. You actually don't have to export the files at all - just drag and drop the photos from Aperture and they are go right into InDesign. They are referenced so the album file is not huge or anything and any changes made to the images are easily updated.
any input on how it is for jpeg shooters/ if it has gotten any better with its insane master reference system that mean you have 3-5 copies if you are taking a photo into any other program

That is a nice feature, but unless you're using a custom indesign workflow here - you are just linking to the aperture JPG Preview of the master, not a full quality export... which may or may not matter.
Ya, it's a minor issue. I do find it nice though to see realtime updates when working on a spread and the affect of your image adjustments have to take neighboring images into account.
I love the smart alignment guides in the book tool, and if you toggle the gear icon in the top right of the book navigation panel, you can open layout info, and can size things mathematically. I do wish there was a snapping feature though along with the guides to allow for a 1/8" grid...
I have been testing Lightroom3 beta because most seem to use lightroom but now I have seen some of the feature that are in this release, they a starting to pull away from lightroom. I was holding off from upgrading Lepoard to snow leopard on my Mac Pro, but obviously now is the time to do the upgrade.
For me personally the "gimmicks" of video import and gps are the biggest two features. Reason being is my current jobs are shooting both video and stills throughout many countries for long periods of time. I do not do the primary post work on the images so have to send back all data on a drive. This way all my video and stills are in the once place, with the geotagging inbuilt so that there can be full tracking on where I have been shooting. The finished product that these images are heading to is also map driven.
...And for anyone who uses facebook as free marketing... The faces feature is actually really cool as it makes it easy to automatically tag people and drive traffic to your photos.
I have held off upgrading as I have a 7D with wireless and this does not work with EOS Utility and Snow leopard. Canon is working on it but when they will update?
Time for a (another) dumb question....will Aperture 3 allow you to store photos on a variety of hard drives or do they all have to be on one drive.....
Does anyone know if the brushes can be applied to plug-ins ? For example, could you selectively brush in a dose of Noise Ninja on an image ? The Aperture 2 NN plug in I tried was global only so I went back to using the standalone version.

It has been better since version 1.5. You don't have to store the files in the library.
How? whenever i import stuff in to it makes me put it in to the library.
In the import dialog, there is a dropdown that says "Store files in" - change it to a folder of your choosing. Then... use the "subfolder" dropdown to automatically create a nicely organized hierarchy for you. Example, if you want a folder structure "2008/12/04/" You can setup the subfolder structure to be YYYY/MM/DD.
I have my subfolder structure set to "project name" so it is easy for me to remove the RAW files for a project from my laptop and move them to an archive when I am finished with the project.
The project stays in my library along with the image data, my albums, books, and all the previews. If I want to re-export or edit any images, I just need to bring the RAWs back online.
This is similar to a media workflow with any non-linear video editing application.
There are many articles out there both describing the benefits and speed of referenced masters - Here are two to get you started:

See my post above, this has been doable since version 1.5.
