Compare the MTF charts of the Nikkor 24mm 1.4 with the Canon 24mm 1.4 ii. When you figure out that the black/gray lines on the Canon MTF chart are the wide open performance, you clearly see how much better the Nikkor will perform. And many Canon users think that their 24mm 1.4 is close to perfect.

Thanks...
Maybe I should wait for the new 24mm 1.4
after all it will be cheaper than the old 28mm 1.4
and with a full one year guarantee from B&H..

All Nikon USA lenses have a full 5-year warranty from Nikon.

Sure!

Double-check the details on some other things, too, because some of them are surprising. Adorama will give you the same warranty on USA or grey-market items, for example, with the only difference (I think) being that you send the lens to them if it needs service instead of to Nikon. So there's always some creative options to consider.

1).Would you consider the 28mm f1.4 a lens that could compete with this new generation of lenses?

2)The question is: is the 24mm 1.4 going to be way better than the old 28mm 1.4

1) No, not really. It probably is more comparable to the 50mm f/1.2 AI-S or Noct Nikkor. It was a very limited production lens, hence the high prices.

2) It should be

I believe that both MTF graphs are calculated, so they should not be interpreted too literally.

Also I could not find the annotations for the Canon graph.

I won't be buying the new 24mm F1.4. If it was F2, at a lower price and if it was FX, then yes I would.

I have the 16-35 since this afternoon. First batch delivered. I bought one for 1099 Euro because I made a reservation in advance but prices have gone up in this shop to 1179 Euro now.

It's a great lens. At f4 it already gives a good uniform sharpness nicely spread across the image with the corners slightly less sharp. At F5/F5.6 it's very sharp all across.

It handles much better than my 14-24. Much lighter and less fragile. The VR works like a charm (1/6 is no problem) and the lens focuses very close which might be handy in some situations. I think Nikon has made a top seller. I will test it further tomorrow and am thinking about selling my 14-24. The 14-24 will stay at home and the 16-35 will be in my bag all the time.

Have a look at my fotosite.

When you want to have a closer look at the crops, be patient because it takes some time to load the bigger images.

Might be a good idea to start a new thread on this topic. For sure, many people will be interested to investigate the performance of this lens.

Might be but I'm not sure my site can handle so much activity.

Just notice that you live in Germany; I bought my 16-35 in Germany (Top Foto in Düren). At 2 P.M. he still had 2 or 3 in stock.
