I sincerely hope the OP is being sarcastic! The pictures look great - a 40D at ISO 800 doesn't look as good as the highest ISO pics shown in the link. These new canon's are meant to make use of some NR and they handle it well.

Thanks so much everyone - you have no idea how helpful you have all been.
I'll be using my 5D Mark II as my main camera at fashion week and I'll bring along the 1D Mark IV to use as a secondary camera. The good thing is Fashion week is 8 days. Every day I go home check my 1D pictures and make some adjustments and hopefully by the end of fashion week - I'll have a much better understanding of it and maybe have set up the camera just the way I like it.

Sorry - if I sounded tacky at times. I just guess I was expecting too much too soon with a new camera that is in a different league than the camera's I've used in the past. In my mind I thought a Pro Camera would just blow away the others regarding to noise.

Thanks agian

I feel sorry for you but the objective tests clearly show your 5D2 outperforms the 1DIV for noise...sorry I was hoping for an improvement too...you just have to look at the objective reviews and not the Canon sponsored hype before buying

In my experience the noise levels between the 5DMKII and 1DMKIV are essentially the same, or at least close enough that they are negligible.

There are other reasons to like the 1DMKIV and if anyone is going to spend that kind of money on it, I would hope he/she would be aware of that.

Hey Davey, If you are talking about NYFW it would best serve you to use the 1dIV during it.

Have you shot fw before? The accurate focus and extra reach you'll get will help a lot. Not saying you can't shoot fw with the 5d II (since probably the most well known fashion week photographer there is uses one too) you'll just get better pictures with the 1d4 unless you got a prime spot.

This looks like some weird in-camera NR settings. Set it to raw, then pass the files thru a decent raw converter and let's talk again.

And no way the 40D looks this good.

... or 50D, for that matter.

Those pics has way more noise than my MKIII. I would send it back. Another lemon from Canon!

Mark IV is so much better than the Mark III its not even close!!! If your having problems with yours send it in for a check or experiment more with the CF's.

Have you seen this? http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EOS-1D-Mark-IV-Digital-SLR-Camera-Review.aspx

It actually looks like the Mark III is better (though these are pixel level crops)

I've seen them.
I still maintain that the MKIV has maybe 1/2 to 3/4 stops over the MKIII when you resize.

This is weird, why is the D300 cleaner than every Canon camera?

Interesting..unfortunately I don't have a MkIV but my 5D2 is about 1/3 cleaner than my 1D3 when resized...which means the Mark IV must be around 1/3 cleaner than the 5D2 when resized? (only its not )

I found my 5D2 to be about 1/2 to 3/4 stop better than the 1D3 when resized...actually it almost felt like a stop, but in reality that probably wasn't the case.

Honestly I at this point, I don't care how the MKIV performs against the 5DMKII in high ISO noise because they are close enough and are really good.

If you mean on my chart, that's only true at ISO 800 and due to NR kicking in during the test. At ISO 200 and 400 the D300 is actually the noisiest, and at ISO 1600 and up the 5D Mark II beats it.

In fact, even at ISO 6400 the 5D Mk II is the champ, tied with the D700, and at ISO 12,800 and ISO 25,600 it is nearly equal to the D700.

I hope to get 7D and 1D Mk IV data included soon.

I'd love to show off my new camera. Some people are gonna be a little bit rough on you when you follow that quote up with I'm being honest.

I think maybe this is the case with JPG but definitely not RAW converted with DPP (all settings to 0):

Well, I'm not sure what you're trying to say with this. The 5D shot looks less noisy than the 1D Mk III shot to me, although not dramatically so. The higher resolution of the 5D is clearly evident, though.
