How did you get a picture of me?
How old is that ? I think I remember gear like that once
Gotta be like early 1990s. It was in the days of the F2 Fat Boys and the Mistral Midgets in Florida. I was up against guys like Scott Steele and Mike Gebhart riding the light air Mistrals, but when the wind kicked up they could not keep up with a Fat Boy on an F2.

Not a 1d4 pix, not a digital pix, but it is me, shot by one of my homies with my old Nikonos VI, which at least has a VI in the name of the camera.
Great old shot - did you make the gybe? With those sail colours, that has to be from sometime in the 80's.

Isnt Dave running the boards mag now or something? if so that dosn't seem right , thats almost a 'propper ' job
Yep, it's one of mine. I'll post it here sometime although it looks as if we may be able to re-enact it this year as the speed tour is back in Fuerte in August.
Dave is indeed running Boards so I don't bother sending them shots anymore. Almost everything in that mag is now credited 'Image: Dave White'. Dave's a pretty good photog and they never used to pay unless you hassled them for months so I guess it's no loss
My Mark IV came today with the latest firmware. Too late in the day do much shooting. Shot on near darkness at ISO and seemed fine so far. I hope I do not see the problems that OP is seeing.
Lide and Pierre your shots look dead on. Curious of what method people are using to for AF Micro Adjustment. Anyone using the Lensalign system?
Good luck to OP in finding the problem.
Michael

Hi, Michael,
I do MA just by shooting some real world subjects, and put some +/- MA based on the results, usually pretty quick and dead on.
Just keep in mind "1" dial with MA is 1/8 of DOF...
Good luck, post some shots with your 600mm, must be a killer combo with mark IV,
Regarding the Lensalign, heard some good reviews about it, didn't have a chance to try it, should be a good tool for MA for sure.

That's odd that some cameras are arriving with 1.0.6 and others with 1.0.4 - all within a week. Mine arrived last Friday at 1:00pm with 1.0.4. I figured 1.0.6 was fine so I loaded it. I used my LensAlign to check my 70-200/2.8 and it needed a +6. At 2:00pm I headed out to shoot 3 basketball games and everything worked fine.
I have not had a chance to do any testing with 200/2.0, 300/2.8 or 400/2.8.
Wow, Lide...I am impressed.....you've become a BIF shooter.
I knew you had it in you.
Looks like your camera/lens combo is tracking good. Keep at it and post some more.

Hi, Peter,
I haven't used the camera after I received, only took some shots at home, and this thread pushed me to get out and shot something to verify if my Mark IV works....
Regarding the BIF, shame on me
But comparing the Mark IV to Mark III, Mark IV is a definitely approved camera, Mark III is a fast camera, but mark IV is just faster, you can feel it right away when you using it...very enjoyable camera to use..
Here's a shot from the other day, you may be interested..
Still shot in JPG, straight out of the camera, resized or cropped in PS. The first is full frame, and second is 100% crop, this camera can focus and track http://www.pbase.com/imagebypeter/image/121638546/original.jpg

Lide
Lide, that is one of the most difficult shots to make as far as AF is concerned....a bird flying above a choppy water surface. Talking about busy background, that takes the cake.
BTW these subjects was piece of cake for the latest version of 1DMarkIII (weavy background and small moving subject) I suppose that in 1.1 firmware version will solve any MarkIV small AF issues

Hope yours is OK Michael. From the look of it, there are some good ones and some bad ones out there.
No MA on that 400/2.8 as it doesn't need it but I'm still unsure of the best way to MA long lenses so hopefully someone will chime in with a tip.

So you chose the 1DMIV instead of the 7d, Michael?
Congratulations!
It seems not all are affected, let's hope yours is not.
Please keep us updated.
Took it down to the seafront at lunchtime and blasted a few seagulls. I reckon over 95% of the shots are perfectly tracked and in focus. I think it's really sensitive to a not quite perfect autofocus settings.
In fairness and not wanting to sour the warm feeling I now have inside, I was shooting gulls in the sky so no distracting background. It would seem ring of fire is fine for plain backgrounds, but is really unstable and jittery with anything else, dropping the sensitivity down helped but wasn't a cure. The best option was to flip over to a selected AF point and use the surrounding AF points to assist, which seemed much, much better - I'd almost say majical in the way it seemed to keep track, even small birds at distance.
I have changed a number of my AF CF's since I listed the previous lot, so I'll post my updated settings later in case it helps anyone else. I'll also post a full tracked burst and some other examples.
Good to hear! In my opinion ROF has never worked well for anything other than birds against a blue sky, a single AF point with or without expansion is the only way to get consistant focusing.
